We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantina Zenon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was to create something that was meaningful to me and my customers. What’s really special about the collection at the Wildsamfierce Shop is that it was created as part of my healing process from my childhood traumas. Wildsamfierce Shop is an e-commerce store that designs graphics with inspirational quotes. Each design and quote were inspired by moments that shaped me into the person I am today. It’s a reminder to all of us that, with the right mindset, we can make our wildest dreams come true.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As an artist it was natural for me to create something that reflected on art. Furthermore, it’s even more rewarding, because it comes from a place of vulnerability. I want every person that purchases something from my collection to wear or use it as a badge of honor. We have a wide variety of items, colors and sizes, from sweatshirts to home decors. You can check out the full collection at www.wildsamfierceshop.com. The best part for me was to create a brand from something that’s still taboo in the world – mental health, I realized we still have a lot of work to do. Instead of blaming society, we need to be realistic with our approach. We have been in business for less than a year and so far I am enjoying the ride, and I don’t mind putting in the work, it’s worth it to me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would suggest Tacombi, I went to that restaurant one time on 24th St. in NYC with a group of people and I never looked back. I remember one of my friends and I went on a treasure hunt to find it, because I didn’t remember the address or the name and also would not come up on google. After walking around for a couple of hours ready to give up and there it was – mission accomplished! Everything I have tried on their menu is amazing! I love this place, the tacos and quesadilla are my favorites. They have many set ups such as a smoothie and alcoholic bars. It looks like a cafeteria and the prices are reasonable. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think many people deserve recognition, I want to start off with my first mentor in college Karlene Thompson. She said to me ” When you are focused, you are brilliant.” And these words stayed with me. It’s a simple reminder that I am capable and I can do anything. I also want to also acknowledge one of my acting coaches Michael Beckett. I enjoyed the way he challenges actors like myself to find deeper meaning in their arts. I noticed a major difference in my work, when I was able to get into the character’s mindset. I enjoy becoming the character from researching and creating a backstory for that specific character. The work was always more grounded.
These pictures were created by vendors for catalogues, I don’t have the photographers name. As for my personal picture, it was shot on my phone.
