We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Huffman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christine, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
It started during my teen years in the 80’s. . I’ve always loved vintage scarves, especially worn in my hair. The problem I had was that they would never stay on for too long as they would slip off. This is a very common dilemma that I learned most women face when trying to put a scarf in their hair.
It wasn’t until much later in life that I came up with an original construction design whereby the scarf not only stays put in your hair but is comfortable as well. I made the first few for myself and then it grew from there when other women showed interest in the product. So what sets my headbands apart is that again the design is my own creation and because I only use vintage scarves to make them they are not only eco friendly but one-of-kind. Fast forward to today vintage and up cycling has never been more at the forefront. So it’s exciting to know that recyclicious still resonates with women of all ages today

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started very grassroots. I was new to Los Angeles, newly married and about to start a family when I came up with Recyclicious. I knew I wanted to start my own small business after working for many years in the fashion industry in NYC. Recyclicious was meant to be something once do part-time while caring for my son once he was born.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Koreatown for lunch.
Sunnin Lebanese at some point. Any street fair or fest on the weekend.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this to my son, Sebastien
