Meet Christopher Hancock | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Hancock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christopher, how do you think about risk?
My entire journey as an actor has been about taking the necessary risks to help advance my career. Many actors have side gigs to help pay bills while they are in-between auditions and various acting jobs. This is due to the pay structure for various acting roles. Some jobs pay little to no money while some pay extremely well.
When I first started acting, I worked on the hit Television show, “Godfather of Harlem,” as a featured Harlem resident. This was my first time on a big budget production set, so initially I was just excited to be there. Casting apparently loved me so I got the opportunity to come back multiple times for various shoot dates. There was, however, a huge problem. I still had my 9-5 full time job, and most of the time casting would call the night before a shoot date asking for my availability. This was extremely stressful at the time because requesting time off work last minute is frowned upon in corporate America. These are just some of the tough decisions I’ve had to make, and I chose to be on set each time casting called. I still face this problem now, but being cast in a production as opposed to doing background allows you to have the shoots dates ahead of time.
Actors always come to me for advice when they are put in a situation of whether to confirm their availability for an acting gig or turn down the offer and show up for work. It’s a difficult decision, but I’ll always tell actors who are passionate about their craft to follow their heart. I am not a believer in turning down work that can help advance one’s career for a job one is not passionate about.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been acting for about four years now and it has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least. There have been several highs but a lot of lows as well. I think what sets me apart from other actors in the industry is my work ethic and desire to succeed no matter the circumstances. Due to the competition and number of roles available, it is extremely difficult to “make it” as an actor in this industry. I’ve been rejected countless times even after having some of my best auditions.
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned over the years is that your career as an actor largely depends on how hard you’re willing to work. Staying committed and not giving up will hopefully allow me to surpass many actors who may be just as talented. I use past failures and rejections as motivation to keep improving.
I want the world to be on the lookout for me! I’m an up & coming actor from Prince George’s County, Maryland and I’m working to become a familiar face in the coming years.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are several fun and exciting places to visit in Los Angeles, California. This may sound a bit cliché, but if friends are visiting the West Coast you have to take them to In-and-Out Burger. LA also has some amazing tacos spots with my favorite being Tacos 1986. After enjoying some of the amazing food LA has to offer, I’d walk it off with a hike on one of the many hiking trails. My personal favorite is Runyon Canyon, but there are several others to choose from.
The beach is also a must. The most popular beach spots are Santa Monica and Venice Beach. Manhattan Beach happens to be my favorite so my friends and I would stop by there during the day. Nightlife in LA is all about the celebrity mansion parties. If you are lucky enough to get invited, you should definitely attend those or head towards the Hollywood strip to grab a drink from the various bars.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would say the biggest credit goes to my extremely supportive family. Whenever I am faced with a tough decision I will always call about four to five members of my immediate family to get their opinions on an important decision. They give me nothing but great advice and confidence to make the necessary decisions to advance my career.
Thank You!
(Rita, Michael, Stacie, Kyle)
