We had the good fortune of connecting with Christy Wu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In 2020, I graduated from NYU music business program and went back to China. I got my first job at UMG Beijing, but at the same time I was not sure if that type of corporate lifestyle was what I wanted. I had this observation that there was no long-standing live session program in China and indie artists had a difficult getting heard and properly presented. And I would love to create that space for the best up-and-coming artists so I quitted my job and started this channel with my partner.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think the most unique part of making “homegrown自家种” is how the show was also literally “homegrown”. I learned how to set up a scene, shoot / color grade / edit videos from scratch after I developed the idea of the show. As we develop the program, my partner Leo1Bee handle everything related to audio production, and I do everything related to concept, visual production, planning, branding, artist relations etc. We started this show as two fresh graduates without any funding. Fortunately, we reap what we sow and look at how beautiful and diverse this music garden is now!
