Meet Chunxuan(kelvin) Yu | Senior UX designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chunxuan(kelvin) Yu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chunxuan(Kelvin), what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success has been a commitment to innovation through user-centered design that integrates seamlessly with advanced technology. My passion for creating intuitive, AI-driven solutions that genuinely enhance everyday experiences is at the heart of my approach. This human-centered philosophy ensures that technology is not only functional but also meaningful and accessible.
By aligning business goals with user needs, I have consistently crafted solutions that improve customer satisfaction and redefine industry standards. The projects I lead, such as the SmartHQ app, Flavorly AI, and SmartHQ Assistant, exemplify this approach. Each of these integrates AI to address real user needs—whether by simplifying meal planning, providing real-time appliance assistance, or enabling remote control of smart home devices.
In sum, success has come from blending creativity, cutting-edge technology, and a deep commitment to understanding and solving real-world challenges, helping both users and the brand grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career journey has been shaped by a commitment to designing solutions that are both innovative and deeply user-centered. I started in design driven by an early fascination with how creativity could solve real problems and improve people’s lives. Today, I work as a Senior UX Designer at GE Appliances, where I develop AI-powered, intuitive designs that transform everyday experiences with technology. I’m proud of projects like the SmartHQ app and Flavorly AI, which leverage AI to make users’ lives easier and more personalized.
What sets me apart is a belief that design should not just be about aesthetics—it’s about creating meaningful connections between people and technology. I prioritize collaboration and inclusivity in my design process, involving diverse stakeholders to make sure solutions meet a wide range of needs. In fact, my approach goes beyond creating for users; I focus on creating *with* them, which has been key to creating resonant, widely accessible designs.
The path hasn’t always been easy. Navigating the rapid pace of technology and balancing innovative ideas with business goals has been challenging. But these experiences taught me resilience and adaptability, showing me that obstacles are often opportunities in disguise.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of continuous learning. The design field evolves constantly, and staying curious has allowed me to keep pushing boundaries and growing as a designer. I hope my story reflects the importance of staying passionate, connected to people, and open to new ideas. My work—and the journey itself—is dedicated to bringing tech-driven design into people’s lives in a way that feels meaningful, accessible, and empowering.
