We had the good fortune of connecting with Cierra Fogle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cierra, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As a creative soul, I chose to pursue an artistic career, because it mirrors my purpose to insert creativity into my everyday life. Staying authentic to self is very important to me. I’ve always felt that continuing to insert any type of art I create in my lifetime, is an amazing way to have everything I am a part of, be authentically me. At times, I can feel stressed about my work/life balance, but I never have regretted the paths I have taken for my life journey. Every decision I make is my own, and every day I make a choice to keep supporting myself through what I believe is the best option for my being.
I can’t seem to stay still when I am having to answer to someone else’s calls regarding my well-being and my vision of self. Keeping my career as artistic and creative and open minded as possible, has done amazing things to my physical and mental health; and I will continue to do so for myself, as long as it stays healing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Art in all it’s rawness, is my way of release. Talking about art, observing art, creating, all of it is a way of release that I am blessed to be able to have every single day. I consider myself a multidisciplinary, experimental, ancestral : painter, storyteller, movement artist, and sex worker. My journey has been a bittersweet lesson throughout, as well as one of the most beautiful things I have ever placed myself within to experience. I am so grateful for all of the ups and downs of my creative life journey, and cherish every moment I have to express myself in whatever way I allow myself to. I love to create with found objects, and objects that I feel have a connection to whatever piece it is a part of. I’ve started creating pieces with actual parts of clothes or hair or makeup of mine. It makes me feel as if my art is an actual tangible part of me, physically and mentally.
I have worked as a dancer and artist in the past two years, and i have noticed now, more than ever, how important it is to incorporate dance into art into writing into speaking into touching into living! It is so amazing to be able to use my creative body and mind within everything I do. I want to be able to continue expressing myself in every single way I can, forever.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take anyone who was visiting Cincinnati, to some of my favorite parks / outdoor areas. Fairview Park, Buttercup Valley, Mount Airy Forest. I would also get some of my favorite food spots, like Rasheed’s Cafe, Hooks Fish n Chicken, Drunken Bento, Richies and so many more honestly. Cincinnati has some wonderful restaurants, and having picnics at one of my favorite parks is always the move!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give some recognition to a few amazing creators that I have been blessed to share artistic and loving spaces with. Roberto who is an amazing writer, musician, and visual artist, and the XXFACESXX collective, who is made up of Tyren and Muhammad, two wonderful creatives and souls. These people have all lifted me up in ways that have really benefitted my heart and my tangible everyday life. They definitely deserve all of the exposure within the artistic community.
