We had the good fortune of connecting with Classique and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Classique, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by my higher power and all those who are tapped into their own. I kind of view the world like everyone is the superhero and villain in their own story. But most important is the superhero part. As humans, we have the ability to choose which path we take no matter what the destination is. Some of us take the short route and some take the scenic route. But along the way of either route, we are met with hurdles and obstacles that can be fed by the villain in us. As creatives we have an important task of taming that inner villain and being the superhero in our own stories and sometimes even being the superhero in someone else’s. I find inspiration in the scenic route. I find inspiration in those who take on the sometimes tough task of dreaming, manifesting, and pushing through obstacles. I am inspired by anyone who bets on themselves and does what they are most passionate about in this life despite how long it takes to attain.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I go by the name Classique and I am violinist/singer-songwriter from Long Island, NY (one thing I’m always going to do is rep where I’m from! lol). What sets me apart from others is my gift and how I use it. I am a self-taught violinist and have been playing since I was 7 years old. I was blessed with the ability to play by ear. I also began songwriting at a very young age. As I grew up, I learned that there was a format that people follow when it comes to instrumentation and song writing. But I also learned that there is a beautiful world of experimentation and that is where I find myself; exploring my creativity, thinking outside the box, and executing the visions in my brain how I see fit. Not only do I feel like this sets me apart from the rest, but I’m also most excited about staying true to who I am and my artistry in this way.

It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today because most times it took a lot of convincing. People are so conditioned to doing things a certain way that it’s difficult to present new and innovative ideas, especially when it comes to string playing and songwriting. I had to observe the spaces that I was in often so that I could find the right time to present my artistry or what I was working on. Sometimes my creativity was received warmly and other times it was received with harsh criticism. But that only helped me overcome these challenging moments because it made my skin tough.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to take criticism and pour that into my work. If someone told me “I hate this song” or “You could have written this better”, I would say “okay” and write a song they couldn’t refuse. But in those times taking criticism, I still stuck to what felt right learning that everything is not made for everybody. Therefore, some people aren’t going to like what you create and that’s OK. It does not define who you are.

I want the world to know that I am just getting started. I am a seasoned creative that has newly stepped fully into her artistry as a singer-songwriter in addition to being a violinist which is what I’m most known for, and it feels great! My story is being written as we speak, daily. I am ever evolving and I can’t wait to share my upcoming project with the world!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting and I wanted to show them the best time ever, I’d take them on a journey! We would visit the beach for some sun, air, good vibes and views. Then, we’d visit Washington Sq. Park in NYC because there’s always some sort of live music happening that generates a fun crowd. While there, we’d also grab some food from one of the numerous hidden hole in the wall spots around. Depending on when they are in town, first Saturdays at Brooklyn Museum is always a vibe.

Another day, we’d go to NUBLU in NYC for Producer Monday’s which is nothing short of pure musicianship, artistry, creativity, and dope vibes! Eating at Bayview Kitchen in Amityville is a must because that’s one of my favorite Black owned restaurants. I’d love to go check out a SoFar Sounds show because it gives us the opportunity to discover new artists in an intimate setting. A Candlelight show would also be something cool to do. The setting is so beautiful with hundreds of candles and the audience intentionally absorbing the musicians of the evening.

In my opinion anything that involves, good people, good music, and good food is the definition of a good time! I think with that itinerary we covered all bases.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to God! My Higher Power, The Universe. Without this constant flow of love, energy, and alignment I am nothing. Every opportunity and accomplishment were only achieved because it was aligned and I am in extreme gratitude for that. I also want to give a shoutout to my supporters near and far. They are part of what keeps me motivated to continue doing what I love.
