We had the good fortune of connecting with Dasha and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dasha, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Being an artist, songwriter and entertainer is all I’ve ever wanted to do, genuinely. It wasn’t all of a sudden I had a song blow up on Tik Tok and now I’m an artist. I’ve been in for the long haul so to say. I started seriously songwriting, singing and playing shows when I was 10 years old. At 12 I released my first song onto streaming platforms with a music video. I had no idea what I was doing but I knew it’s what I was meant to do. This was before I knew it was even possible to make money writing songs and being an artist. But to answer your question, there was never another passion and career option for me. It was always music.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I know a lot of my fans love and listen to my music because they relate to it. I’m putting into words how they’ve been feeling and they know they’re not alone in their emotions. I guess I got the double edged sword where I am very emotional and feel a lot of things easily. Therefore, I always have something personal to write about. Something new to say and chances are, being a pretty typical 21 year old girl, other people have felt and gone through what I’m writing about. I think what sets me apart from others is how raw and authentic my songs are. Nothing’s sugar coated. I’m singing just like I’d say it to someone. I tell stories with my song but make them melodically catchy and clever at the same time. I guess I’m not afraid to genuinely say how I’m feeling: to use that guy’s name in a song: to use details so spot on everyone’s gonna know what’s behind the curtain.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Funny enough, my friend just visited me from Nashville so I’ll just tell you what we did! I love thrift shopping so we hit the flea markets in Melrose, Silver Lake and Venice Beach. Asian cuisine is my favorite of all time so we hit a few spots including Bao Dim Sum House (get the BBQ pork buns). We got boba several times from Urth Cafe (matcha boba with oatmilk and brown sugar is my go to). We went to Santa Monica Pier for margaritas and chips and guac at the end of the pier, then of course had to hit SugarFish. Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Oh and we went to the Griffith Observatory since I had never gone and got the best view of the Hollywood sign and saw the coolest showing in the planetarium. Only $5 for students. 10/10 recommend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people I am grateful for in my journey so far but to name a few: my parents have always been so supportive over my brother Bardo and I, who is also in music (Beauty School Dropout, producer). So on that note, I don’t think I’d be where I am without Bardo pushing me to get better and being the person I could loom up to always. To my favorite co-writer and best friend, Jules Paymer. They are so incredible and pushes me to write better songs. To my team and management and everyone else at Quadio, thank you for believing in me. To Taylor Swift for being the reason I fell in love with music. To my college songwriting professor, Jodi Marr for kicking my ass on what makes a great song and how I can be the best writer.
