Meet Claudia | Permanent Makeup Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Claudia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Claudia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I come from a large family and most of us are all women. I would admire watching my older sisters get ready and ensuring they looked good. My mother was the best at it as she had graduated beauty school in Guadalajara, Jalisco. We moved here when I was eight years old and immediately realized that fashion in the US was on a whole different level than what I was used to. It didn’t take very long for me to learn just how creative make up could be and how it would give me confidence during a challenging transition. This was something I would would want to give with others and share in the confidence to face difficult situations. I would practice as often as I could, even asking my sisters to model for me. The artist in me was able to bring joy to friends over the years and was happy to be the one to hand that to them. Today I am a mother to a two year old daughter and a wife to an amazing husband. I own my own business, Simply Makeup and Brows, and specialize in cosmetic permanent makeup. After four years in business and too many amazing clients I am overjoyed to have found a career I am very passionate about that doesn’t feel like a job; something I can treasure in knowing that with my art and creativity I could provide someone that positivity and confidence to face any challenge that may lie before them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Aside from having a wonderful and creatively silly husband, raising my two year old daughter is sharpening the skills of the artist within me. Watching her skills develop and being responsible for her development is allowing me to appreciate the simple things in life. I translate this over to my work by taking my time to understanding what my clients are looking for. To educate them on the process and help them feel comfortable for the steps ahead. Being able to establish professional and friendly rapport with clients allows me to provide them with the best before, during and after services. Having opened in 2018 I had invested time and money. The time invested included mostly of the courses and convincing my husband this was a good idea. I knew in my heart this was not only good for us but good for me as well. I took a leap of faith with prioritizing my value of life knowing that all things are a risk and when there is no fear there is no success. I have learned that hard work and dedication do pay off and that the frustrating moments make the good ones that much better.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in LA is a blessing in the sense that we have so much access to sought after activities. Between the beach on hot days and the mountains during the snow, the deserts and the countryside, being able to experience something new so frequently is very exciting. I love to eat so restaurants are always fun too. Having so many choices of what to eat I feel I can travel the world through food without needing the leave the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All the people who allow artists like me into their circle of trust. Permanent Makeup is a commitment and I value every client for their confidence in my work.
