We had the good fortune of connecting with Cori Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cori, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Looking back on launching Package & Press our thought process was simply to just dream big and go for it! P&P started as a daydream between Rachel and I and quickly evolved into where we are today. Rachel and I have been life long friends and on a trip away we joked about how we should start a small business. Rachel being incredibly creative and myself with a background in merchandising and business management it was naturally a perfect match. We had spent the last few years growing our families and the thought of taking on this venture was so very exciting. We designed each of our gifts to be not only sentimental but to be a memory that would last the years to come and with each box created we knew that this was something we truly wanted to make our own.
What should our readers know about your business?
Here at Package & Press we style and design gift boxes for all of life’s occasions. We strive to create products and collections that are both high quality and unique to create a memory to last the years to come. Whether it be for a holiday, new addition, home, or even a corporate event we hope to create something that is sure to be loved. Getting started we knew we wanted to create something special. We poured our hearts into all of the little details from the boxes themselves to the message behind each design. At first each box was filled with items that we handmade ourselves such as our signature candles to an entire spa line. However, we quickly realized our talents were limited to a few designs and decided to continue on with adding in curated items from other amazing makers and creatives. Most recently we are so excited and proud to say that each box is handmade by Kelly from Knotted and Corked. We have always received such support from other small businesses in Santa Clarita and to be able to do the same brings us so much joy. It is this combination of our own goods and those of others that has really propelled us forward to a place that was at one point only apart of our imaginations. It certainly wasn’t easy launching our business after much research, trial, and errors we had put together that first collection and headed to our very first market. It was a small gathering at an elementary school and we sold maybe two or three things to the cutest kids ever. It wasn’t what we expected what’s so ever but we made enough to treat ourselves to dinner and some laughs! Looking back on those very first days and nights it is crazy how far you can come if you just keep trying. Having already been friends for so long and now in this space of life with our families, growing Package & Press has pushed Rachel and I to be our best selves. We have been so honored to package gifts with messages so personal and inspiring for all avenues of someones life. It is with each of these that I always find myself thinking about how grateful I am to be able to send that message and that it was our gift someone out there chose to do so with. It is those moments that will forever push us to continue on and just keep dreaming a little more.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite things about LA is that there is so much to do, eat, and see! First and foremost we would have to eat all things delicious in Santa Clarita starting with the brunch menu at Old Town Junction in Newhall. We would explore the shops in the downtown area, hit the farmers market, and grab some tacos from El Pato for lunch. Can you tell I like to eat?! Assuming my pants still fit for dinner it would be a toss up between all of the amazing sushi spots around town maybe we go crazy and do a couple haha. Next up we would definitely explore Pasadena. Having lived just outside of Philadelphia for many years the beautiful architecture of the city has me feeling right at home. After some exploring we would head to one of the many beautiful beaches along the coast for some salty air and sunshine. In addition, we would take a drive through the canyon into Beverly Hills to check out some sites and marvel at the gorgeous homes tucked neatly away. Last but certainly not least we would finish off the week at one of my favorite spots Perch LA. The rooftop seating is absolutely gorgeous and don’t even get me started on their mashed potatoes. Following dinner we would top off the trip with a cocktail from The Varnish, a fun speakeasy right in the heart of downtown.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thank you to everyone who has ever taken a moment to show that you believe in us. Whether it be a word of encouragement, advice, or story your continued support and kind words have kept our dream alive and you have pushed us to become our best selves. Thank you to our sweet husbands and families. You are truly the reason we have come this far and your support means the absolute world. Without you Package & Press would have just been a fun idea but your love and encouragement has always been the reason we keep dreaming. Last but certainly not least, to our fellow small business owners, you inspire us every day let’s make it happen. Cheers XO
