Meet Cristina Moskewicz | Photographer & Flow Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristina Moskewicz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cristina, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Truthfully, I pursued photography because I was inspired to. Specifically music and concert photography, because something about candidly capturing those moments in music, or of a specific artist, made me feel like I was at that event or in that moment. I guess that goes for any type of photography honestly.
There are some incredible photographers who have that eye and I just felt drawn to it. I think capturing those moments is a beautiful thing; I wanted to surround myself in the environment I love and show others why I love it so much through my own lens.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I’m slowly but surely getting to where I want to be in my career. As a photographer right now I can’t be too picky about what I shoot. The goal is to be a music photographer and right now I shoot local underground raves and local djs. Which I absolutely love. On the side I’ve done, portraits, headshots, product photography, BTS, creative portraits…you name it. I’d say a challenge is getting too caught up on the specific type of photography I want to do. As much as I want to go out and shoot Insomniac events or LA nightclubs, I also can’t turn down opportunities that aren’t nightlife or music related. I do mainly enjoy more candid type photography, but truly any gig I get is always going to be more experience under my belt and I wouldn’t turn that down. I do need to remind myself that it is a pretty saturated market for photographers and if I really want it I just have to keep grinding! I just want to turn my passion into a career and I believe I can do it, so I just try to keep that mindset when things get tough or doubt starts to creep in. I try to remind myself how far I’ve come compared to when I was a kid with a flip phone laying on the ground trying to get that interesting perspective of a flower on the floor. My photography has only improved the more I do it. It’s a slow process to gain the clientele and to shoot for the events I want, but I am constantly just putting myself out there. Lots of unpaid gigs and traveling just to have a portfolio worth showcasing, but I believe it’s only a matter of time before I start making photography my primary career.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love going to shows and concerts, so if anyone is ever in town I’ll be checking out a few venues like Exchange LA or Academy. I’ve been to tons of shows at the Novo and The Forum. Both great venues. Every time I go I always think to myself, ‘I wish I had my gear.’ One day I will though. For now I attend shows and you can find me in the back of the crowd giving lightshows. Which is another hobby of mine, very niche, but there are local meet ups that happen in Santa Monica and San Diego for flow artists with LED Props to meet and trade lightshows. You can also expect as my guest to be attending one of those!
I also like going on hikes! And theres TONS around here. The Griffith observatory hike is a classic and the view of LA is insane. I guess really what I want to say is I like the views, not the hike but I power through. Muholland Drive is my go to ‘drive with all the windows down blasting music’ spot. There’s also a scenic viewing area that looks over the valley that is beautiful. Definitely alittle spot I have to take people to.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s tons of people I would thank for my success.. Of course my family and friends for supporting me by lifting me up and using my photography services or recommending me. They are the real ones for really pushing me to pursue a career that so many others also pursue. They consistently have my back with the support and I can’t thank them enough!
Also a big thank you to Tessa Paisan, she is truly a big inspiration of mine when I started gearing my focus towards music photography. During the pandemic I actually had the opportunity to take a few photography lessons with her and she gave me a chance to shoot an event alongside her just to get a feel for what being a festival/music photographer can be like. LET ME TELL you, after that day I was so sure that this is what I wanted to do!
Also thank you to anyone who has ever used my services, I’ve had lots of different opportunities to shoot different things which has helped me grow as a photographer, even if it isn’t music oriented. Such as SwordplayLA, a fencing/stunt studio in Burbank, where I work as a receptionist, but also as the in house photographer for events/shorts they produce. Along with EmazingLights, a gloving/rave company, who helped me gain some footing in the edm world, by allowing me to attend events as a sponsored flow artist but also bring my gear along to take photos. So many thanks to everyone!

I took all the photos except for two of the images! The first image is of the DJ that’s front and center, very bold with his hands sticking out on top of the dj deck and has colorful smoke behind him on the screen that was taken by Tessa Paisan insta: @tessapaisan (this photo absolutely needs credit, I also got her permission as well) the second one doesn’t necessarily need a credit because it was a friend that helped me take the shot. But it is just a relevant photo for the flow art comment I mentioned. Its a blurry photo of myself with the yellow, blue, green LED light trails that was taken by Beretta Kaschai.
