We had the good fortune of connecting with Curtis Rodgers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Curtis, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?

Truly believe in myself that I could even make it happen! I say that because we all are tired of something or want to make some changes in our lives but depending on how big that thing is you don’t truly believe you can pull it off, at least I didn’t lol

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

In terms of my art I’m just starting to get my footing there with my style, but if I had to say I just like having a clean and simplistic look with my projects. I also think to some degree that’s what sets me apart because people want to do outlandish things to stand out with their art. Which a lot of people are looking to do because it’s “in” but there is nothing wrong with that. I just make what I like. What I’m most proud of is the fact that once upon a time I would talk about how to get where I am, but now I am there and all I can do is smile sometimes and be grateful that my belief and faith in change lead me here. In the most basic explanation possible how I got where I am was simply determination to change the situation I was in. Even if that meant taking steps backwards to leap forward. It definitely wasn’t easy. Not by a long shot! But it was definitely worth it. Also it’s something I work on day in and day out because now it has to be maintained. The steps I took was to pretty much to stay consistent and try not to overwhelm myself. Lessons I learned along the way is to remain humble, be yourself because everyone else is taken, and celebrate the small wins. What I want the world to know about my brand is I am not in competition with anyone and open to working with with anyone with good vibes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Hahahaha this question is funny because I consider myself boring. But if it’s my best they would know that so I’d probably say locations we would have to hit Venice Beach and Santa Monica. Maybe do the Runyon hike. Food we have to hit Fatburger because it’s my favorite burger spot. Maybe go check out the Hollywood sign or Grand Central Market.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My shoutout goes to a few people actually! First and foremost my wife! Without the support of my wife the progress I’ve made with my business or even starting it for that matter would still be just a thought. Second my group of creative friends that push me to be better on the daily, Creative Ryan, YCImaging, KiddNick amongst others! If I had to pick a book I’d have to say Austin Kleon – “Keep Going” I believe. Great for creators in general!
