We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandin LaShea and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandin, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
All throughout my life people have always told me that I should focus on one career path and to work endlessly at that one thing until you achieve total “success”. I have always completely disagreed, I feel like if the universe blesses you with multiple talents or gifts, you owe it to to yourself to see them through and craft each one. You never know which avenue is going to take off until you try out all the things that really call to you in life.
Please tell us more about your career. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I think that the thing that sets me apart from people, is that I am me and no one can be me. That is my super power in the competitive industries of culinary arts, television and business. Getting to where I am is just the beginning and to get the where I want to be is going to take a lot more hard work and perseverance. It’s almost like knowing what you want to do and be in life, can be a blessing and a curse because you will always know something is missing, until you start to obtain the goals you have set upon yourself. So growing up knowing that I have always wanting something larger than life out of my time on this planet, has been a real struggle at times. I feel like going after the things you want is never an easy ride and you have to get a a lot no’s before you start to hear yes. So maintaining an outlook that nothing can stop you from achieving your goals and owning the fact that your struggles in life have made you who you are, are two of the most important things I have learned along the way. I want people to see me and the things that I’m building to know that no matter what walk of life you come from, no matter what other people may believe about you, no matter what you have been told that may leave you feeling less than, you have the power to achieve and be anything and everything you have every wanted.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a bestie come to town for the weekend, we would start the day by doing a scenic hike over looking Los Angeles, then we would follow by having a rooftop brunch at Catch or another great outdoor spot, like Eataly. Then we would spend the day shopping on Melrose, light lunch at Urth Cafe and finally dinner and drinks with the girls at a new spot like Margot, in Culver City.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom! Christi Love! My best friend, my number one supporter, my life mentor, and the person who pushed me to ALWAYS follow my dreams.
