Meet Cymere Lasean | Creative Artist – Specializing in Improv, Music, Dance, Acting, and Writing

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cymere Lasean and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cymere, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Camden, NJ, and Sicklerville, NJ. Growing up in both the city and the suburbs gave me a unique perspective. Camden inspired my dreams and ambition, while the suburbs gave me structure and a focus on education.
The suburbs also opened me up to different cultures, family dynamics, and ways of living through my friends. Each place contributed positively to shaping who I am today. I’m proud of this blend of experiences and the strength it has given me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I want the world to know about Royden is: When you hear Royden spit, you know Royden wrote it (Nicki Minaj raised me). Her influence aside, my journey has been one of evolution and discovery. I once felt torn between music and acting, but I admire how Childish Gambino—Donald Glover—excels in both fields and isn’t afraid to push boundaries within each medium. His ability to reinvent himself, whether through music or television, has taught me that creativity should have no limits. So, think Royden (music) and Cymere Lasean (acting).
Growing up, I was inspired by Beyoncé’s relentless work ethic. I watched her documentaries and behind-the-scenes footage repeatedly, emulating her dedication. I remember running on the treadmill while singing to build my performance stamina as a child because I heard her say her dad would have her do that.
My journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been a learning process. I lean on my faith to keep me grounded and remind me that I am never alone. These experiences have shaped my belief that I am my own treasure, rather than searching for it elsewhere.
I’m so hyped about my upcoming web series (still in development) and vlog channel, where I’ll be sharing my journey and hopefully inspiring others. The phrase ‘A Cymere Lasean Jawn’ is my unique approach to branding—obviously a play on ‘A Spike Lee Joint’ with a touch of personal flair. When it’s ‘A Cymere Lasean Jawn’, you can expect it to be extraordinary. I put my all into everything I do, and I’m committed to delivering excellence every single time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First off, we’re definitely hitting up Earle’s On Crenshaw and Sweet Red Peach—probably on the way from LAX because that drive is insane. We can’t skip Porto’s Bakery—it’s a consistent favorite for a reason. Then, we’re going to South Philly Experience for a cheesesteak with mayo, ketchup, fried onions, and white American cheese, and also Goldburger in Los Feliz for that LA Special burger.
We’ll catch a show at The Groundlings to see “The Black Version” and probably check out a film at one of the American Cinematheque locations. Of course, we’ll head to Malibu for the best beaches. I’d also convince them to visit the Writer’s Guild Library because reading the scripts there always inspires me.
Let’s be real, we’ll probably end up dancing at WeHo and hitting up a day party or two—there’s always something happening in LA. And to wrap it all up, we’ll stroll down Rodeo Drive for some shopping. I’m actually dropping a song called “Rodeo” very soon, so I’m excited for y’all to hear that!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who deserve recognition for the roles they’ve played in my journey. Lisa Nichols and Les Brown have both been powerful sources of encouragement for me, helping me believe in the possibilities ahead. Their teachings gave me the courage to make a big move like coming to LA, pushing past my fears to chase my dreams.
Matt Cook deserves a special shoutout for introducing me to The Groundlings, which truly changed my life forever. That introduction opened up a whole new world for me, allowing me to grow as a performer and ultimately expanded my network.
Then there’s Julian Gant, who I look up to tremendously. He’s always been there, rooting for me, and his energy inspires me to go for it every single day. Seeing him live his dreams motivates me to do the same.
Of course, I can’t forget my family and friends who’ve been my foundation through it all. Their support and love has carried me farther than I ever could have gone alone.
