We had the good fortune of connecting with Daisy Miles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daisy, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Black LA Food Tours helps the community by intentionally circulating dollars back into Black-owned businesses. We’ve supported over 100 restaurants across LA County, bringing hella new customers and visibility to spots people might not discover on their own. In a city fighting gentrification, we’re preserving culture, celebrating legacy neighborhoods, and making sure our stories, flavors, and entrepreneurs don’t get erased.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an LA native, and that truly sets me apart. I’m not just running tours in this city, I grew up here. I understand the culture, the history, and the heartbeat of these neighborhoods in a real way. I built Black LA Food Tours from a deep love for Los Angeles and a desire to see Black communities celebrated, not erased. It’s bigger than food. It’s about circulating dollars back into our community, fighting gentrification, and creating hella joyful spaces where our culture is honored.

It wasn’t easy. There were moments of doubt and slow growth, but I stayed consistent and believed in the vision. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that community is everything.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First of all, they’re absolutely going on Black LA Food Tours. That’s mandatory. We’re hitting Tev’s Kitchen, Earle’s Grill, A Family Affair, E & J Seafood, and Jamz Creamery. They’re getting history, hella vibes, cocktails, trivia, and real LA flavor in one afternoon. That’s how you start the trip. The most fun and exciting part of LA to me isn’t just the “touristy” stuff. It’s the culture. It’s the small businesses. It’s the entrepreneurs building something from nothing. It’s the palm trees, the lowriders, the food trucks, the aunties who’ve owned restaurants for 20 years.

LA is layered. And as an LA native, I know how to show you the real version, not just what’s in the media.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout the guests and the restaurants who made Black LA Food Tours what it is. The guests who trusted me early, bought tickets, reposted flyers, and showed up with hella energy truly built this with me. And the restaurant owners who opened their doors, shared their stories, and believed in the vision are the reason this platform exists. The tours are bigger than me, theyre community in its purist form. We did this together.
