We had the good fortune of connecting with Daisy Miles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daisy, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
The food tour puts money back into the community by showing love to Black-owned spots, bringing in new customers, and highlighting the culture and flavor that make our neighborhoods special.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m the founder of Black LA Food Tours, a cultural experience that celebrates Black-owned restaurants through curated food tours around Los Angeles. What sets me apart is my passion for creating space where Black stories, flavors, and businesses are centered and celebrated. I’m an LA native. I hold a BA in African American Studies and an MA in Humanities, which deeply shaped my understanding of culture, history, and community, everything my brand is built on.

I started with a vision to pour back into my community (south central LA) and now I’m watching that vision grow every day. It definitely wasn’t easy. I built this while juggling a full-time job, motherhood, and life. I’ve had to learn as I go, how to market, build partnerships, handle logistics, and stay authentic. Every challenge taught me something, especially the power of consistency and community.

I want the world to know that Black food is not just delicious, it tells a story. And our stories deserve to be told, respected, and enjoyed. My brand is about joy, culture, and connection, and I’m proud to lead with purpose.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting LA for the week, I’d make sure they got the full Black LA experience. We’d kick things off with the Black LA Food Tour!!

After that, we’d hit The District by GS for drinks, because the vibes, the music, and the crowd always deliver. Somewhere in between, we’d swing by my family’s house, because they’re hella funny, a little crazy, and guaranteed to have you laughing ‘til your stomach hurts.

To walk some of that food off, we’d take a wellness stroll with WalkGoodLA or Keep It Run Hundred for a community walk, because moving our bodies and staying grounded is part of the vibe too.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All the restaurants, that allowed the tour to pull up. Tev at Tev’s Family Kitchen for being kind and taking a chance on me with my first tour. The influencers that has help promote the tour and black businesses and mostly importantly the participants I’ve had the pleasure of hosting.
