Meet Dana Devaughn | Artist/Painter/3D Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana Devaughn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always wanted to own something that I can proudly call my own and incorporate my passion into it, especially with my art so I decided to start my own business out of it calling it Drippin-in-Art.
I knew I needed to get more of my work out there so I went ahead and put it out there without thinking to much about it. You just have to take a chance on yourself and think of yourself as an investment that’s going to be worth a lot in the future and that’s what I believe about myself is that me and my artwork is going to be worth a lot in the present and future.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One thing about me and my art is that I always like to have fun with it and never like to stay in the box whenever I’m creating something cause I like making variety of art pieces. Some people stick to what they know and what works for them as an artist which is cool, do what works for you. Me on the other hand I like to challenge myself and play with ideas to see what works & what doesn’t. I try different things with my 3D art like adding real hair, fabrics, jewelry etc to give that element and making it stand out but also art that you can touch while interacting with it.
I’m honestly still figuring out the art world even though I’ve only been doing art shows and events for a couple years but I learn as go along and that it takes time before you start to see results. I just put myself out there the best way that I can and keep creating art constantly, focusing on my goals.
I want others to know that I create dope artwork that stands out that’s not duplicated & that they feel something when looking at my pieces. Part of the reason why I came up with name Drippin-in-Art is that when you look at any of my art you know that it has a lot of Drip (meaning style) with an edge to it and that my art is going to capture your attention & start a conversation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly I pretty simple and I love to eat so I would say at Chillis restaurant cause the prices is pretty reasonable and my bartender makes the best drinks. My go to drink is a melon drop martini and I love to eat steak with steamy broccoli with mash potatoes with cheese, bacon and green onions on it or have some salmon lol
Get me some good food and a drink at a bar or restaurant and I’m good to go. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive. I love good energy and having a good time with the people that I’m hanging out with and catching a vibe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The two women who’s been a big part of my journey as an artist is my mom (Rayechelle) and my grandmother (Brenda) that’s always been there for me every step of the way. My grandmother was the one who actually got me into painting back when I only did pencil drawing and was the one who bought me a tone of art supplies from paints, canvases brushes, easels and so on…
My mom would take me to my art shows and pop up shops where I set up shop at helping me set up. She’s pretty much the blueprint of how I got started as an artist cause she got into fashion design and went to school for it so I get my art from my mom’s side and how get creative. I still have her old sketches from when she was in college where I’ll look at them from time to time admiring her work as a designer. I’m blessed to have my mom with me to have these special moments with me as well as my grandmother who support my passion as an artist.
