We had the good fortune of connecting with Dana Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dana, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Betting on myself! Leaving Corporate America and starting the KOKO HARLEY clothing brand was a big step but I knew I was made for this. I was ready to apply everything that I learned in the corporate world and take the leap! It’s been two years and I haven’t looked back.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love the creative process from a raw talent perspective because anything is possible. I want to create clothes that make women feel good. Imagine every time someone wears a KOKO HARLEY piece, they feel confident, gorgeous and unstoppable. That is the energy that I put into designing every garment.

After several years in Corporate America, my passion for that career began to fade. I felt myself evolving into someone what was far different from who she had been. I thought about how many years I had until I retirement and realized that life was too short to be miserable. Now don’t get me wrong, corporate america was good to me. The money, security, flexibility and experiences were phenomenal but deep down I knew I was suppose to be doing something else, something I was passionate about.

So I took the leap and starting an artistic pursuit that led me to fashion design. One of the best investments for me starting out was hiring a coach. Someone that knows the industry and can help you along your journey as well as minimize the experience of learning things the hard way. But even so, building a brand is a lot of work and at times can be very overwhelming. In those moments, i try to remember that this is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s important to stay present in your process.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
