We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Foley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Growing up, I always found excitement in experimenting and learning from my own challenges. I wouldn’t be talking to you today if I didn’t enjoy taking risks – from marrying the love of my life (from Ireland) at 23 years old, to quitting my job, to starting my own business… You can say that risk taking is a huge part of who I’ve become! But – to feel comfortable taking risks, you have to fully commit and believe in yourself. I love this quote by Winston Churchill – “Fear is a reaction. Courage is a decision”. It is so easy to doubt yourself when you are stepping out of your comfort zone, we all do it, but it takes true confidence and courage to really turn those fears into actions.
Everyone told me that starting a business with a 4 month old baby was crazy. Did I believe them, sure… but I also believed in my vision, and what I had to offer the design build industry. I had support from previous clients, my family, and most of all, I was confident in myself. If you are contemplating doing something because of doubt and fear, put pen to paper and start mapping out the steps you need to take. Trust your gut and just take a leap of faith!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I live right next to the beach so first and foremost, I always take my friends on a nice bike ride or rollerblade session along the boardwalk. If it’s summer (or a nice hot winter day like today), we’ll chill on the beach, paddle boarding around the bay, or rent a duffy and watch the sunset. For food or drinks, you can’t go wrong with Lido Marina Village or hopping around the Peninsula.
In the evenings we love going to one of my client’s venues – the Anaheim Packing House. The Packing House is a gourmet food hall full of local small businesses. They have a fun cocktail bar in the center, a speakeasy, and host various events and live music on the weekends. This is our go-to spot and all of our friends always want to go back! If we’re lucky and friends are visiting on the first Thursday of the month, I love the art walk in Laguna Beach too. Over 40 of the galleries and boutiques participate and offer artist receptions, demonstrations, live music and of course wine.
Other than food and beaches, we love sports. Depending on the time of year, we try and go to an Angels, Lakers, or Chargers game! If we can’t make it out, we love going to the local Triangle Square in Costa Mesa and watching the games at one of their restaurants or lounges.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to my number one supporter and motivator – my husband! He pushes me to boundaries I never thought I was capable of, and in those dark times when I was wondering “what am I doing?!” he always helped me focus and reminded me of my goals. Make sure that you have someone by your side that can give you logical advice when you’re emotional, and can see your potential when you are feeling lost.
