We had the good fortune of connecting with Danilo Batson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danilo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process was to help facilitate an opportunity to create impact for everyone who had a desire to help the Black community. I felt there were many people who have seen the injustices and wanted to help and didn’t know how. Sometimes it is hard to figure out where to start and I felt we had a plan to use their willing service for good.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Spicy Green Book owes all it’s growth to the collective efforts of everyone who has donated their time and talents. We are a nonprofit startup looking to create impact and this can be hard to accomplish without access to resources. Thankfully so many people have also seen the disparities and challenges present for the Black community and have contributed.

Our goal is to simply highlight Black businesses by created an Intentional Economy. We have put together several Outdoor Food Market hosting all Black-owned businesses with that goal in mind.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I would hope they would come during the week of the Spicy Green Book Outdoor Food Market. Our next one is August 19th, 2023 12PM -6PM. Address is 1440 Rosecrans Ave, Manahattan Beach, CA 90266.

This will be a full day of family fun where you can eat, shop, dance, relax, and find ways to support your local Black-owned business.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Kinecta Federal Credit Union is a valuable partner of ours. Spicy Green Book has been able to put on events every year with the idea of creating an equal market place for Black-owned businesses on the Kinecta parking lot.
