We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalysa Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jalysa, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the most important factor of success is 1st recognizing why you’re are doing what it is your doing in the 1st place. Once that is established then you then create your purpose and your purpose is truly the driving force to why you wake up every day. Why you choose to be in the line of work. I do believe if it is reasons that are superficial and surface such as money and clout then I think once those accomplishments are achieved the passion is lost. You desire for success/brand have to be for reasons deeper. THey have to be for purposes that are I think beyond such as you know pleasing your audience responding to the black community or whatever your culture may be making your mom proud those things are little bit more in depth and I think that is literally the reason why I want to be successful is for those reasons that are bigger than myself.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The purpose of your brand is to represent you and once you realize that you have in individuality then I think that’s what separates me from the rest of them. I am not like everybody else even though ouy experiences and our traumas they may mirror each other. I left my 9 to 5 job at the Post Office to pursue my career in acting because I knew that was my purpose that I was placed here to influence and inspire and yes it creates a lot of responsibility but it also creates fulfillment and that I’m not doing this just for a paycheck. My story has always been to be relatable against my audience I want people to see themselves through my writing in the characters that I write see their families see their hypocrisies see their truths see their humanness and I love authenticity. I have learned that your vision is like a wedding nobody is going to be as excited as you are so stop expecting everybody to be doing back flips every time you write something or create something because it is more of your vision(wedding) when the day comes and it is released then it is theiors to be digested and received and loved and hated and revered etc.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a little biased because I do work in this location before everything happened with us quarantining. But the city of Venice is so fun so exciting so wild so pretty so colorful I would absolutely take my friends have been is we would go to my vegan restaurant that I used to work at cafe gratitude I would introduce them to an amazing black bean Burger called the magical we would take these scooters which I never got a chance to use to the beach and explore Venice walk and head over to the Santa Monica pier. There is a hot dog on a stick stand there so I would have to introduce them to my American cheese dog and they’re delicious large strawberry Apple lemonade from there take them to the observatory at night so that they can look at the stars learn about astronomy and celestial beings we would roller skate or bike because the driving would become mundane and I would take them to a Cool underground club with underground music like los globos or lock and key Some type of restaurant or eatery that has beautiful atmosphere I may even take them to the roof on willsher so they can get the California Hollywood experience. We need the night at a airbnb for game night.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I mean obviously God gets the glory in my ability to persevere in such a hard career and life for that matter. My mom for supporting me continuously. have found a class that molded in to a family called Breaking Through Acting Workshop led by multi-hyphenated Choice Skinner. I would not be who I am or even becoming if It wasn’t for that man and that environment. My friends who have rooted me along that way as well.
