Meet DaQuane Cherry | Painter

We had the good fortune of connecting with DaQuane Cherry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DaQuane, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is the recipe for creation; it is the core to understanding innovation. Without risk there would be no iphone, no airplanes, hell even me if it wasnt for my parents taking a risk on one another. Risk is inevitable to production.
Its what drives me to create , to live. I took many risk in my life. Everyday i take a risk in being a fulltime artist in nyc with no secure job, and i love every bit of such risk.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What makes me different from the rest… i dont compare myself to the rest. Everyone has their own expression therefore no one is better than the other. Its more of mere perception in the eye of the beholder.
I strive of individuality and expression. Whether its through my canvas, hair, style or even selection of music… i am my self when i embrace thyself.
It was never easy and its still not easy being so in tuned with my individuality. I struggled with understanding that i have always been what society calls different. It took me living my young adult life in nyc to realized i am just as normal as the next one… i just got a little more seasoning in my pot.
My work revolves around keeping your inner child alive. Embracing thy childishness. The teddy bear represents the imagination. As kids we give them names, a storyline and as we grow older we forget them… so i rewrite and paint their journey , the three colors are the primary colors in which are the foundation of art and without would leave the world black and white.
I want to leave this world knowing i have made someone feel their most vulnerable self in a way that makes them express their imagination.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my friends around harlem . Cantina on Malcom X Blvd hosts some of my favorite bartenders Raul, GiGi and Jason they bring the joy of light with their personalities. Then id take them to my other favorite spot, 4west lounge where they’d meet Bonnie, Chavis, Kelvin, one thing about them, they gonna make a drink and show you a good time the harlem way. Last but never least id hit up my friends uptown at Barrel where my friend Thommy shows us what a community is like and where my good sis Bee makes a good ass drink.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My supporters id like to give a shoutout to every single person who have followed me, bought a painting, recommended someone to me, motivated me, gave me words of encouragement. To my instagram family, you have witnessed my growth as an artist and have paved the way to my success. With that i owe you all a big thank you.
