We had the good fortune of connecting with Rashunda Rene and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rashunda, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
One of the best habits I think helped me succeed is sticking to a schedule. As an entrepreneur and ultimately a business owner it is critical that you manage your time efficiently. Now that is not to say I get it right every day (because I don’t), but having the foundation of a schedule sets the tone for my days. It started when I was young and growing up my mother made sure I was on a schedule. As far back as I can remember she would make sure I woke up every day at the same time, got ready for school, had breakfast, etc., even to our evening routine being scheduled and then having a bedtime. As I got older in high school and beyond I found myself still sticking to that schedule even though my mother didn’t expect me to. Moving forward to my adult years and starting my career in the corporate world, again, I was still on a schedule. I say all of that to say, as business owners we often want to be an entrepreneur because we can make our own schedule, or not have to follow anyone else’s timeline, but in reality, it is at this point when you should be your most discipline with your time and have a schedule. Even to this day, I have some friends who tease me about being so structured and maybe even a little obsessed with my schedule….. but I’m ok with that. 🙂
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Innovative Entrepreneurs Hub first started as a business development & training community offering events ranging from Workshops, Presentations, Networking Mixers, and Meet-Ups. The idea was to come together to foster a collaborative community of encouragement and support for businesses. The 2019 version is a Hub where change-makers and entrepreneurs who run startups, small businesses, social enterprises, and non-profit organizations come together and work on their projects, bounce ideas off each other in a safe, creative, and productive environment. Innovative Entrepreneurs Hub is not only a workspace, but it’s also a community. We have individual work areas, collaborative work areas, conference room, and a green screen room for video and photoshoots. In 2020 we expanded our coworking community to include our Virtual Hub where we have many of our traditional offerings online as well. I am most proud of all of the built-in resources we provide to our members and the community. We have resources to help with business formation, branding, digital marketing, business credit, accounting & bookkeeping, tax preparation, and financing to name a few. It is one thing to provide the space for small businesses and entrepreneurs to work from but where we go the extra mile is the resources and support to help our members really develop and grow their respective businesses. Being able to build Innovative Entrepreneurs Hub to where it is now has taken a lot of time and dedication. 2020 was a challenge for everyone across the world and having a business during this time we face many uncertainties. Even as we speak, it continues to be a challenge to navigate having a business during such uncertain times but my team and I continue to forge forward and provide our services to the best of our abilities. As long as we have clients we will continue to work through this challenge. The lessons we have learned recently is that having services that can truly help others and showing our stability in the community proves to be a good strategy. However, we are always evaluating our services and surveying our network to make sure we are providing relevant services.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend was visiting, we would for sure have to visit Innovative Entrepreneurs Hub! We are on the 11th floor and have a great view, not to mention it’s just a cool place in my humble opinion! 🙂 We would order lunch from our friends at Toss It Up Salad and have it delivered as we chatted a bit and got ready to hit the town! Since Innovative Entrepreneurs Hub is in the LAX corridor we are close to many beach cities so we would have to hit the beach. Overall LA is just a great city and there are so many small businesses that we would have to visit from Inglewood to the Greater LA area in general. On the itinerary would be Sip & Sonder, Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen, Jamz Creamery, Mingles Tea Bar, The Wood Urban Kitchen, Simply Wholesome, and Coffee Del Mundo to name a few. A must stop would also be the historic neighborhood of Leimert Park, which is widely regarded as the cultural hub for African Americans in LA. Visiting Art+Practice, Eso Won Books, The Vision Theatre, The Leimert Park Art Walk, Hot & Cool Cafe, and all of the great shops in the area. We certainly can not miss the opportunity to hang out with the team that puts TedxCrenshaw together and has done so for the past 6 years! Shameless plug, a team that I am extremely proud to be part of and have met some of the coolest people in our community doing amazing things.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always have to credit my success to my mother, first and foremost each and every time. She passed in 2017 and I dedicate everything I do to her. It is because of her I am the woman I am today. She instilled so many of the values that I have and set such an amazing example for me. So she gets the ultimate Shoutout! My journey into entrepreneurship started with the Los Angeles Urban League Entrepreneurship Center, many years ago and I am grateful for that program. I have friends and family who have supported me and kept me encouraged through all of this and I am so appreciative of them. My team at Innovative Entrepreneurs Hub, who help me tremendously in getting everything done! I also have investors who trusted me and literally bought into my idea and I am forever grateful to them. I know that without all of these people none of this would be possible and I thank them!
