We had the good fortune of connecting with Daria Sarmientos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daria, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since I was little the idea of “creation” was something extremely attractive to me. Being able to create something that could define who I am in this world, what I’m going to leave and what I’m gonna be remembered for in this world once I’m gone, has always been a question mark in my life. What we, as human beings, can create? The answer is EVERYTHING. But what I personally wanted to create was uncertain for me. Growing up I felt like I was developing a decent level of empathy and I was feeling connected to other people’s emotions in a certain way. That’s when it came up to my mind…I wanna create emotions. I wanna be an artist of emotions. The art of acting came to me at a certain point of my life where I really needed to find a way to be able to express myself and explore more of my personality.
I knew that I was in the right place doing the right thing, nothing in this world makes me happier than acting, nothing in this world makes me feel closer to other people and part of something great, so why wouldn’t I wanna make this art my actual job? This is why I decide to pursue an artistic career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from others is that I got to decide I wanted to pursue an acting career quite late in my life, it wasn’t something I’ve always wanted to do. I started right after college, when I reached a certain level of maturity and self awareness that helped me to be more focused and more realistic about my strategy in terms of how I could get there. I took each acting class very seriously, I was never late for work, I payed attention to all my mentors and their advises. I’ve always wanted to be extremely professional for every work I did, knowing that each experience was a precious lesson, I could learn something new each time I was on set, no matter my position.
Was it easy?NO!!! Definitely no! I was competing with girls my age with bigger resumes, far away from my home country, speaking another language, but the harder it got the better, because it pushed me to be better. I kept questioning my self: is it because of my accent? I took accent reduction classes. Is it because of my voice? I exercised everyday on my voice and my singing skills. Every time was a check in of what I could improve and just take actions.
What I’ve learned is that the beauty of art is that is a never ending learning process, you can be surprised every time by something new, each story is different, each character is different.
What I’d like the world to know about me is that I’m a person driven by passion and devotion, I’m a professional artist willing to put whatever I am in a project I truly believe in.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ok since we are in Los Angles I would probably take my friend to Griffith Park for a morning hike and a visit to the Observatory. Since we would be neat to the Los Feliz area I would take him to the Alcove Cafe for a brunch and a good coffee cup. In the afternoon I’d take him to watch the sunset in Malibu right before a great real Italian dinner in Beverly Hills at the Pastaio restaurant.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thanks to my brother and my parents, they were the first ones pushing me to pursue my dreams, to be brave and never give up.

To all my acting teachers, your words of wisdom are always in my mind and in my heart, being aware that you believe in me helps me to be more confident.

And to all my friends, you always have my back and you’re always by my side through all the ups and downs of this career.
