We had the good fortune of connecting with Roemello Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roemello, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process was more about personal security and accountability, when it came to starting my business. I had a comfortable corporate job, was doing well financially, until they began laying people off. I think that the idea that someone else could suddenly decide that there would be no food on my plate, frustrated me.
I told myself I’d never let that happen again.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
An important thing I’ve learned, as I’ve grown as an artist, is that our visions are unique. If 10 of us have the same idea, we’d still see it differently. If we looked at the same picture, we’d all have different perspectives and takeaways.
I’m most excited about the freedom to create and collaborate with my vision and ideas and the ideas of others. To empower others to create from their soul, with their full selves. Once we get away from the desire to be like others, or to blend in with others, we’ll find new ways to be, to see, and to live.
In building my own brand, of course there were challenges. Whether something is easy or hard.. that’s subjective. The things we think are hard, become a lot less complex when we take the time to understand them instead of forcing what we want. . So, as long as you’re learning the lessons, the ups and downs just become a part of the journey. We don’t take anything personal.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Can’t think of everyone off of the top of my head; But, whether you’re in my life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime… I’m forever grateful.
Biggest shout-out to my parents though. My amazing, graceful mother and my father whose light and spirit I feel with me every day.
