We had the good fortune of connecting with Daryl Rolle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daryl, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
As a entrepreneur is you begin to learn quickly that…. the best lesson in life is a bought lesson. And of course the more time goes on the more costly the lessons are. There was a point in time where I was working 6 days a week 70- 80 hours a week and not investing that same time into my personal life. Without work life balance other priorities in my life suffered and suffocated…family, health and friends. Depending on your list of priorities you begin to understand how costly that can become to your ecosystem if you don’t have balance. It is just like constantly going to the gym, and exercising only one arm, but you expect to have a whole beach body.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been a Master Educator in Barbering for over 10 years. I have been blessed to own multiple shops, and I am the first barber of TED talks. My new project which is Tonsorial Education Systems is a “graduate school” for the barbering industry. Our focus is to take the barber to the next level by way of developing all of the pieces outside of the skill, i.e. economic, community and workforce development. I am most excited about being able to develop my colleges with a robust platform that allows my industry to not just sustain in these times but be able to scale in the future.
Business is a competitive sport. You have to be disciplined in practice to be able to be disciplined on playing field. If you don’t put the time in the film room studying plays, opponents and strategy. Then you won’t have the time to hold the trophy. They both (business/sports) have a lot of parallels.
My favorite quote is from Henry Ford that says “ You can’t build a legacy on what you are going to do.” There are plenty of times in my life where I could have allowed excuses to consume me, but three questions I always seemed to carry me:
1. How bad do you want to be successful?
2. What are you willing to sacrifice?
3. What are you willing to leverage?

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am all about water. So any place on the water or by the water!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

First and foremost my support system, lead by my wife (my rib)! Shout out to all of the elders that I have crossed paths with in my life. I love them. They have given me the best wisdom that money can’t buy. Because life gives you the test first and the lesson afterwards, I have always been responsible with the knowledge they give on life…they give you the hack codes about the path ahead. And lastly shout out to my close friends…. my books. I am a bookworm. My favorite book is Ego is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday.
