We had the good fortune of connecting with David B. Meadows and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David B., we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are everything and everywhere. Trying to avoid a Risk IS a Risk. So, since there is no avoiding them, pick the ones you can grow from. The ones that challenge and excite you, and especially the ones that scare you. Our brains are so wired for fear, pessimism, and safety it stops us from challenging ourselves and growing into the best version of us. It stops us from living the life we could be living. It is an illusion to believe that we can “avoid risks” what you’re really avoiding is life. Opportunities. When I look back on my life, all of my biggest successes have come when I embraced my fears and jumped headlong in. My biggest failures, the things I’d trade anything to go back and change? Those happened when I gave into the fear and refused the risk. All of the most successful people I know are the ones that face risk and fear head-on daily and smile.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I got out of the SEAL teams, I knew I wanted to get into Acting and Storytelling. Something about the life and humanity of the Art spellbinds me. From the very start, I knew I wanted to go the classical, old-school, route of Theater School and Training. All of my favorite Actors today walked that path before me and there is a depth to their work I find riveting. I started my training at the Actors Place in Virginia Beach, studying Improve and Meisner Technique for Film. Afterward, I ventured to New York City to Study at Michael Howard Studios and Later the Studio of New York Conservatory. After Graduation, I jumped over the Pond to Study and perform the Classics with the Prague Shakespeare Company. Over the years I have worked in theater and film across the United States and Europe performing in such plays as The Great Gatsby, Othello, Midsummer Nights Dream, Death of a Salesman, and Henry V. Dave’s theatrical accomplishments led him into film and TV, including Captain Phillips, Imperium, Banshee, House of Cards, Superstition. Recently he starred in the critically acclaimed Feature Film– “The Manson Brothers-Story of the Midnight Zombie Massacre” and is currently raising hell with the Cast of “Walker”, on The CW, as Clay Cooper- the rules be damned–gets things-done cowboy.
Last Year I teamed up with Army Veteran Ryan Curtis and Real Estate Entrepreneur and Award-winning producer Scott Adler in the formation of the new Production company–FoxHole Labs, aimed at empowering and employing Veteran and First responder filmmakers through classic storytelling. Their first Production: “REPOE’D” will tell the story of what happens When two equally dangerous and completely opposite ex-military men are pitted against each other, they soon realize it was an elaborate recruitment scheme into a top-secret mercenary group.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ha! I don’t really consider myself a “man of the town” but I’d have to take them to The Santa Monica Pier and Sherman Oaks. Also the Walk of Fame, just to see their face when they see what it’s ACTUALLY like.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All throughout my life, I am grateful to have been supported and aided by multiple people and organizations. They truly have allowed me to become the person I am. My Family and friends foremost, and my various teachers and mentors along the way-Keith Flippen, Julie Fishell, Jayd McCarty, James Eckhouse, and Frank Hoagland. In my Actor work, I have been assisted by VME (Veterans in Media and Entertainment) and the Navy SEAL Future Foundation.
