We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn Tanner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dawn, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

Ordinarily I’m not a big risk taker at all. I’m the type of person that usually goes for the “sure thing!” However with certain parts of my life I’ve started taking more risks. You know, just going for it, and since then my life has changed for the better. I’m happy in my personal life and even more happier with my career. My career is thriving in ways that I truly never imagined. My career started nearly 2 years ago by taking a risk and admitting to a room full of women I barely knew, that I liked to cook. From there a lot of those women gave me opportunities that helped me grow in to the woman I am now in my business. I’m forever grateful for them. If I would’ve never spoke those words, there would be this layer inside of me that would’ve never been unveiled. I’m living in my fullest potential now and it’s a great feeling.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Meal preps have kept me extremely busy for the past couple of months. It’s hard work but I’m thankful for it. Consistent work is something that I prayed for and something that I manifested. I’ve been meal prepping for about a year now but now my meal prep service has elevated tremendously. I’m now running a Premier Meal Prep Service, thanks to an opportunity that a friend of mine offered to me.

Around the end of 2020, I started meal prepping for a highly successful fitness trainer and his wife. After a few months of proving myself, and showing that my meal prep program actually works, he offered me an opportunity to meal prep for his clients. I proudly accepted the offer but this was around the holiday season, and no one was ever sent to me. My self- doubt kicked in and I thought that opportunity had fell by the wayside. But to my surprise, he called me one morning in early January (I was in the middle of my own workout lol) and asked me if I could meal prep for one of his clients and deliver it that same day! In a few hours! Long story short I made it happen and the rest is history! I now meal prep twice a week for about 7 different people at his facility and new clients are continuously rolling in.

What’s funny is, I never really wanted to be a “meal prep” chef. Truthfully, I prefer cooking with cheese, butter, flour, bacon fat, you know aaaallll the unhealthy stuff lol, and I love to plate! But my journey naturally led me down a path of this Premier Meal Prep Service that my clients LOVE! So guess what!!!??? I’m primarily a Meal Prep Chef!! This reminds me of my god sister owned her own boutique & mentioned to me once that she’d always get “stylist” inquiries! She told me that she always fought it and would decline those inquiries because in her mind she wasn’t a “stylist,” that wasn’t her calling. But one day she took a step back and said hey, maybe this is what I’m supposed to be doing. Maybe I need to stop fighting this and start styling. I can now relate to her testimony. I’m trusting the path and focusing on what’s keeping me busy. I’ve worked a lot of jobs and I’ve never felt as fulfilled as I do now. I’m blessed to make a living by doing something that just comes natural for me. Even if it that means cooking with less calories lol.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Thats easy! Wineries and restaurants! My friends & I aren’t big party- goers. Our definition of a good time is great wine and great food. So top of mind, we’re hitting a good brunch, wineries and some of the best restaurants that Los Angeles has to offer. We’re having brunch anywhere in Malibu, in front of the water. For lunch and dinner San Antonio Winery, Malibu Wines, Cecconi’s, Bandera, Baltaire, Double Eagle, are a must! Then to close out our nights, drinks at the rooftop at the Waldorf or at Harriet’s!  That list is literally endless, I could go on forever. But those places are my top of mind favorites.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

First, I would like to shout out my supporters. Those who pour into me. They know who they are. I never thought I’d have people tell me that I inspired THEM to chase their dreams. I never thought that I’d cook or meal prep for the people that I do now. But these opportunities have come from people who believe in me. So I dedicate this shoutout to them. The ones who believe in me and fill my cup up even in my slow periods. This is for you guys, thank you!

I also would love to shout out anybody out there chasing their dreams and doing their best to figure things out. Being an entrepreneur has its ups and downs but I would choose this life any day. Doing what makes YOU happy and living out YOUR dreams is the most fulfilling and rewarding feeling ever! I want to tell you all to keep going, even in your slow periods. Push forward! Even if the risk feels too big! Trust the process and keep going! Taking risks can be scary, but the reward can be huge. Step out on faith and take the risk! It’ll be worth it in the end! If the journey you’re on is for you, then everything will work out in the best way for you.
