We had the good fortune of connecting with dean lv and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi dean, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I was fond of watching cartoons when I was young, and then I was almost crazy about drawing. Up to now, I have been interested in painting. When I was in college, I came into contact with contemporary art, and became very interested in installation art, sculpture and performance art other than pure painting. I think they all started in the same place, like a toddler’s interest in drawing after watching a cartoon. I hope this interest can stay with me all the time.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think as an artist, I am not different, because everyone is different, everyone is creating their own life, but the way of creation is different, we have different preferences and choose the road to go. At the same time, my self-consciousness as an artist is to experience and think about what I create or the way I choose, and not to let the moment that moves me pass away easily. Then, I will want to express myself, hoping that more people can experience this abstract moving moment.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite things to do is to take them for a walk along the river in Shanghai. Although it sounds like an old person’s thing, I think it’s very important to me. Walking can generate all kinds of ideas, experience completely random happy events, and immerse yourself in them at any time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I feel that all the things I have experienced are worthy of praise, especially the land I grew up in, my family, the air I breathe and the time I pass by.
