We had the good fortune of connecting with Wilma Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wilma, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of our business is our quality and attention to detail. Our priority isn’t just about making money, its creating lasting and trusting relationships with your clients so that they can keep using your services. It’s easy to get one client for your event and make money off that day, however if your focus isn’t on the quality of your product and the detail you put into making sure the client is satisfied, then you’ve already lost them for future opportunities. It’s great to be part of someone’s bridal shower or gender reveal party or any special event actually. We love that we bring an extra spark to an already exciting event. We are happy that we get to share a little bit of drip onto their backdrop. To see their faces light up and to know we helped with a small portion of that really makes your day and makes us feel honored.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’ve come to realize that there are plenty of flower wall companies to choose from, some are brilliant and some are evolutionary…we aren’t much different from those great companies, but what we sell is something simple: we come from a family background that just wants to provide who ever is celebrating with a good experience and cost. Sometimes when you’re doing business, you might get sold on things you don’t really need. We try our best to cater to our customers and their budgets. We let them know what we have and what might go well with their theme. We listen because we plan our parties ourselves and so we know how stressful it may be to put it all together…hopefully we ease a portion of that when you are dealing with backdrop choices. We treat them like family and we give them fair and honest pricing. We go beyond the scope of our backdrops sometimes just so they can feel at ease with less planning. That is what we are most proud of. ❤ It hasn’t always been easy. We have had our fair share of challenges. Early on we had to figure out how to ship in our products, we learned how to hang them from the stands, we evolved each time we did an event, being more critical on ourselves to provide our customers with a better version of us each time while also trying to find a price point that we ourselves would pay to make it affordable for our clients. We want the world to know that life is beautiful with the right backdrop and even with a small company like us, who started from a hedge wall in a tool shed, we can grow and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs, event planners, vendors, etc… Now we have a vast abundance of resources, products, clientele that covers all across So cal and beyond. We appreciate the love and the business, and we aren’t afraid to work with others because at the end of the day, we all have the same goal, that is to make sure that we bring some drip to your backdrop!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As interesting as it may be, during these pandemic ages, we find ourselves cozying up with our loved ones, watching movies, ordering a pizza from our local pizza place (pizza pirates). We try to limit the gatherings, but we used to love to watch a football game at the neighbor’s. We bring the dip, the beers and the tailgate antics. Prior to most places shutting down due to the pandemic, the beach and Disneyland was one of my favorite places to go with the family. Whether it was a few hours to relax and unwind after a long work day or a full day on the weekend, both places really are a great time for the entire family. I’m a mother of 4, so any place that provides a fun and safe time for my whole family including my kids is a definite must for me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are 3 people who I want to dedicate my shoutout to. My business partner, my parents, and my husband. My business partner Wilton Shen is one of the main reasons why Backdrop Drip even exists. After showing him some backdrop inspiration pics, I mentioned that I would love to start a backdrop business. Without hesitation he immediately said he believed in my vision and even wanted to help invest in all of the inventory I would need. We planned for a few months on different setup ideas and made our first big investment in 8 backdrops. After seeing the high demand for different color options, we decided to take the big leap and expand our inventory to 21 backdrops. This large variety of flower walls has helped inspire our clientele to be creative with their events beyond just a cake and a few balloons; we are literally just the wallflower until our customers pick us to help them celebrate. Having him as my business partner is great because he also brings a lot of awesome ideas to the table and with our strengths with certain details, it makes our business that much better. My parents have also been a big help in this business. They got us a warehouse to store all of our inventory and my father has also built some of the unique backdrops that we have. My husband has also been very supportive in this business, helping with the kids and taking on a lot of the household duties while me and my business partner spent hours every weekend building and getting our backdrops ready for rentals. He believes in our vision also and is always understanding when this job demands a lot of time.
