We had the good fortune of connecting with Debbie Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Debbie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I have compassion for those who follow me, I understand their challenges, the critical voices in their head telling them they are not good at art. I feel because I understand and have understanding of how it is to feel like that, I can connect with them, show them I too am not perfect, the bEST artist, and they dont have to be either.
Its about enjoy art, creating, how you feel when you create and always finding joy, and beauty in their artwork. I support and encourage them to play, enjoy most of all., and LOVE their unique style of art.

This goes a long way, and I can really feel and connect with artists and beginners that have become frustrated, or so critical of themselves they have given up. I remind them constantly, they are artists. They CAN create beautiful art and already are.

Explore, have fun, and that is what art is about.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Of course! Here’s a thoughtful response to that question, blending your passion, expertise, and personal story:

My art is all about making watercolor approachable, joyful, and inspiring, especially for beginners who feel intimidated by the medium. What sets me apart is my ability to break down techniques into simple, fun steps while encouraging my students to embrace imperfection and discover their unique artistic voice. I focus on fostering confidence, creativity, and play, which has been central to my teaching and art style.

I’m incredibly proud of the community I’ve built—helping thousands of people find joy in watercolors through my YouTube channel, custom brush line, online courses, and personal connections. Seeing someone light up when they realize what they can create is the most fulfilling part of my journey.

Getting to where I am today professionally wasn’t easy. I’ve faced challenges like ithe technical skills needed in this industry, the financial part of creating, learning to navigate the business side of art, and staying true to my voice in a very crowded space. I overcame these hurdles by focusing on my “why”—my love for sharing watercolor and helping others tap into their creativity. I’ve also learned the importance of resilience, asking for help, and staying inspired through nature and life itself.

What I want the world to know about my story is that art doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. My brand is about creating from a place of joy, curiosity, and freedom. Whether it’s through my tutorials, tools, or courses, I want to show people that they already have everything they need to create something meaningful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For the most part, this is a easy question.
Every morning there would be yoga practice, meditation, lemon water to start the day.
during the day trips to local hiking, unique coffee shops, farmers markets, lots of cooking healthy foods together.

I would have a couple day trips to unique bookstores, art stores, interesting mseums, maybe some antique stores and thrift stores in Old towns near me.

Evenings would be cooking together, laughing, watching a movie here and there, laughing, taking photos on h ikes in nature, of each of us being silly and exploring bookstores, and unique markets.

There would of course be some art involved if they like, painting together, creating together. Lots of girl chats, support and wellness. We go to bed so mewhat early, after a few mocktails, talk about books we are reading, maybe a spa trip. All in all, spending quality time together, laughing, sharing, and creating beauty both in art and foods and ourselves.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My partner and family has always supported me, encouraged me to keep going, that what I am doing is important, and helpful to many. I must also mention that many, most of my subscribers on Youtube are kind in their words, and grateful for the support and this many times will inspire me to see the impact im making.
