We had the good fortune of connecting with DeMarco Majors and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DeMarco, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

My thought process behind creating a business, “MajorWay Strategic Life Coaching.”, came from owning who I am and what I’m most passionate about. I also wanted to honor my family name and my Late Father and Grandmother who have both passed. Over the years I’ve worked in several different industries and have been fortunate to do very well in all of them. However, I realized that my gifts, my heart, and my passion were not being fully expressed.

Why was I allowing the fullness of my joy to be suppressed? If I feel this way, then I wonder how many other people are going through this mentally too?

So, I decided it was time to step out on faith.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Professionally, I am a Strategic Life Coach and the General Manager of Training Loft, a boutique personal training studio in LA. I help people to “heal old wounds with new tools“ and that’s what really sets me apart from others in the fitness industry. I enjoy marrying the physical fitness world with my strategic life coaching tools that also support mental health/wellness. I help people understand what it takes to set a goal, build a strategy, and then execute a plan to successfully achieve it.

I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve never given up on myself. No matter the obstacles, hardships, addictions, pains, or failures — I just kept going and Ive learned how to heal, interrupt the process of old patterns that no longer serve me. Sure, I may have taken a break or felt broken at times, but I never quit. There were times when I was so depressed and worn out by what life threw at me, but I kept a mustard seed of faith and that has always gotten me through.

This fight in me started at a very young age. No one would ever give me a chance and I didn’t have the confidence due to worries that I should not have had as a kid, but it was normal in my neighborhood. I sat on the bench during high school basketball, but I was a starter in college and played pro-ball around the world as an out & openly gay man. I was even invited to be featured in OUT Magazine’s TOP 100 most influential people that were shaping our community — a place where black gay men were not yet as visible or celebrated so I’m deeply honored to have been chosen (and humbled by it).

Nothing that I have accomplished has been easy. Many nights I went without food, some nights without shelter. There were many times that I felt tested by life (God) with sleepless nights, extremely depressed days, and moments of overwhelming fear and frustration. I remember going to numerous tryouts, auditions, and castings — never getting a call back simply because of my race or sexuality. Through it all though, I never gave up!

How did I overcame these challenges?

I did exactly what my grandmother told me… “Always trust God and pray first” … “even if it’s just to tell God that you’re mad at him or just to talk”. This isn’t about religion, rather it’s about your relationship to the source. God gives you exactly what you need. The universe gives you what you want and the Angels protect you from all harm.

There were so many times in my life where this mindset is all that I had and here I am — I’m still standing. It’s true, I’ve had hard situations in life, but my life is not defined by those situations alone.

What I want people to know about me is that I am dedicated to helping people “heal old wounds with new tools”. In life, you can’t change your behavior until you change your belief system. If you get with me, then I can help you identify these core issues, identify triggers, uproot trauma, and assist you in healing them. As long as you are willing to do the work!

I have learned many lessons in life, but none more important than choosing to never compromise my peace for a piece of someone/something else.

Secondly, I had to learn to invest time into getting to know who I truly was at my core and realize that in order to let my light shine its brightest that I‘d have to be willing to sacrifice and burn emotional debris (false narratives) that was no longer serving me.

Lastly, I had to learn how to let go. The art of letting go is one of the most important abilities to acquire as a human being. If it is no longer serving us, then we have to let it go.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

This is an awesome question! I am from Indiana so my friends visiting me in LA is a huge deal!

First we’d have to start at Venice Beach for a morning meditation and then head over for breakfast in Malibu. Then we’d drive up the coast to see the sights and enjoy the outlet malls. After a day of shopping and fun, we’d drive back down to West Hollywood to PUMP for an early dinner & happy hour.

In the evening we’d head to SoulLA for live music where R & B singers and songwriters gather to do an open mic night. Which is an unreal experience!!

For the rest of their trip, we’d pick from the following:

The observatory at Griffith park, driving around Beverly Hills (we don’t get to see this in southern Indiana), dinner at The Grove, DTLA to explore the theater district/art galleries, a day trip to San Diego to visit my cousin, Universal Studios, Disneyland, dinner/shopping in Santa Monica, and maybe even squeeze in a day trip to Catalina Island!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

Well, first I would like to thank Ronnie Kroell for introducing me to the shoutout LA team and for his friendship and support in all that I do.

My family are my heart beat. Shout-out to my mom, sisters (Aria and Zola(Brittney), nieces and nephews(Darhyus S., Breosha J., Alondre P., Adashia (4 more younger ones) and my team at Training Loft on Melrose where I General Manage a team of amazing trainers with two awesome owners (my friends) Wayne Dunne and Stephen Kearney.

Also, my friends Nick, Corey, Roy & Derrick Briggs that help keep me focused and to feel genuinely supported.
