Meet DEMETRIO | Singer, Songwriter, and Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with DEMETRIO and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DEMETRIO, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m a Brazilian-American artist from Orlando, Florida. I was raised by immigrant parents who came to the U.S. with just one suitcase between them and my brother. Music has been part of my life from the beginning. Growing up, I played in jazz bands, which influenced the elements of bossa nova and jazz in my music. My background shapes how I tell stories and how I see hope, resilience, and where I come from.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love making stories. At the moment, I’m working on an album called “AKRASIA”, which is a story about self-love. I want each song to build on the other as the tracks go on. But, it’s still important to me that each song can stand on its own. The production on the album also expresses this sentiment. I use R&B, jazz, and Latin music as the backbone to the album. I’m incredibly proud of it!

I’ve been playing music my whole life, but over the past two years, I’ve taught myself how to produce and sing. The internet has basically everything you need. With a little creativity and passion, anyone can bring incredible ideas to life.

Ultimately, I want people to connect with my music in their own way. While each of my songs carries a personal meaning for me, I hope listeners have their own interpretations as well. Whether they’re actively listening or letting the music play in the background, what matters most to me is that it sparks some kind of feeling.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve only recently moved to LA, so I haven’t really been able to explore around a lot! One thing that I really like about LA is how different the environment is from Orlando — it has deserts, beaches, mountains (I’m still getting used to seeing mountains everywhere since Florida is so flat!) and forests an hour from each other — absolutely foreign to a Floridian. I really enjoy the nature, so naturally, I think the Descanso Gardens and Huntington Botanical Gardens are some of the most incredible places to visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Since it’s only my parents, brother, and I living in the U.S., we just had each other to lean on. My parents worked unbelievably hard to make sure my brother and I had a good childhood. They worked tirelessly to put food on the table and still, they always had a smile on their faces. Their unshakable hope is what shaped me into who I am today. Their hard work gifted us with the opportunity to choose how we shape our lives.
