We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Cherrington and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Denise, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ve never been much of a risk taker, I’d rather play it safe. However as I got older and more successful in my career I realized that if I wanted to go further, risk was a must. Starting my own business was the riskiest thing I have done to date. I like to have all of the answers and know what will be coming my way. With a business there is no telling what could happen even with hard work and dedication. However I’d like to think of this venture as me reverting back to childhood. When we are children we don’t over think, we just do it with no fear. So I channeled my inner child, took my knowledge of business and decided to step out on faith. Here we are I still work fulltime in HR and I work for myself as the owner of Poise’d Wines. IS it easy, Id say a loud NO. However this experience is helping me to understand that when you bed on yourself you’ve already taken the most important risk you will ever take. This experience is yanking me out of my comfort zone. While risk is frightening it also shows you just what you are capable of. I am enjoying this journey and I’m excited to see where this leads.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
By day I am in Human Resources. Management. My education was focused on Human Resources and Business. I did a lot of schooling to climb the HR ladder, however my journey I am also an influencer/content creator and most recently a wine maker. Needless to say I always have something going on. The hardest thing to do when you have multiple projects going on that are all so different is time management. I mean literally sticking to a schedule in order to be effective.. As my business grows I know I’ll have to le go of something, Until then I am happily moving forward in this chapter and dedicating myself to be the best that I can be. Challenges are always going to be there, it is how you move through it that is important. I like to find solutions so that is what I do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many great places to eat, Dominick’s Steakhouse the food is incredible. The Phoenix area has so much to offer, from Southern food, to fabulous ice cream shop. The one thing Arizona is not short on its good food. For your seafood needs Buck and Ryder, incredible oysters! Olive and Ivy is my go to for Mediterranean cuisine.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d have to say my mom, that woman is a force she always let me know there is nothing I can’t do. My squad, my people they know who they are. My little circle always has my back.. It is so important to have people that you can bounce ideas off of, that you can call when you are frustrated, scared or have a creative block, I am extremely lucky to have them. Lastly, my son I ant him to know that there is nothing that he cannot do, I do this so that he understands that whatever you want you have to go and get it.
