We had the good fortune of connecting with Desi Derio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desi, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
My end goal is to first be happy! In addition, my end goal is to have accumulated enough success in music, entertainment, and business to be able to give back to the entertainment community and the world with artist development programs, schools of arts and entertainment, charities, and other businesses that will help aid in the evolution of us as people and artists.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have my latest single ‘RUN TO’ available on all platforms. What sets us all apart is us being us who we are! And even though that can be forever evolving or changing that itself is what one could consider an art of its own. The essence of me and what that may be in that time/moment is what sets me aside. I am most proud of the person I am becoming and the hard work I put in to overcome and persevere! I got where I am by hard work, dedication, genuine business relationships, and not giving up! No, it’s not easy! It’s most challenging trying to remain whole when pieces of you can easily be chipping away in this industry. One challenge I will speak on is over coming my vocal trauma. In 2019 I experience a vocal trauma where I was kicked in the throat. Long story short it cause vocal damage to the point where I didn’t think that I’d be able to sing again, let alone ever sound the same or better than I did prior. Instead of drowning in that idea too long i decided to not give up, rebuild my voice and learn to use it in new ways. I’ve learn to always do my best and be my best as a person and continue to work hard and believe even when all odds seem against you. I would like the world to know of my strength mentally, emotionally to get through and continue to fight without giving up and everyday doing my best to be better than the day before!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, haha! I do not do much of anything! Outside of training/rehearsals I like nature and I like being home unless I have to attend an event or be somewhere. I do like to eat! Lol I’d take my friend to Fryman Canyon trail, get some Cocobella creamery, maybe a roof top outing somewhere with nice music. I’m not much into clubs but every once and a while I’ll partake. I love amusement parks so we could definitely hit one of them up and I’d be good!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow! There’s many people I’d have to give credit to that have helped me along my journey. Firstly, is our creator, secondly, my family they have always been there for me and supported my efforts. Jazman Dickerson my prior manager and friend was a huge part of my journey from managing, writing, friendship and more. Her mother’s support also helped in the process. My friend David for giving me and Jazman a place to stay while transitioning from Las Vegas to California. Abdul Bowman for helping me to live more abundantly. Chuck Maldonado, for taking me under his wing and training me as a dancer and more! And to numerous friends who have been there for me pushing me in times where I wanted to give up! Thank you to them all!
