Meet Destiny La Princess | Rapper/Actress/Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny La Princess and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destiny, why did you pursue a creative career?
I can’t imagine doing anything else. For me, all other careers pale in comparison to the joy of creating art. Art of any kind really, but making movies, making music, writing pretty much anything, I simply can’t help it but to do so. It’s often where my mind goes, and it’s so much fun. Sure, sometimes it’s hard to create something or get that finished product out there, but the hard stuff doesn’t make me not think about it. I believe if the difficult aspects of pursuing a career do not dissuade a person from wanting that career, then you owe it to yourself to really go for it, as well as to all the other people it can benefit. With art and creative endeavors it can be easy for people to overlook how impactful they can be, but art makes you feel, it points out things about yourself that you might not have noticed before, in which that can help you better discover who you are, perhaps even grow as a person. Though, even if my creative works only impacted one person in that way it would be immensely beautiful because every individual person is important simply for the reason that they exist.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Music and film are my cup of tea. Since before I can remember I’ve had a love for story telling in the form of tv shows, books, and plays, but most especially in films. Disney movies were my starting point, the way they combined human connection with fantastical worlds and situations built the foundation for the movies I grew up to love, as well as write. Making movies was all I wanted to do until summer 2020 when my mom challenged me to write a rap song, I thought it was crazy but it awakened the creative beast inside of me. With the help of our producer friend, Micheal Kurt Jackson, we were able to create a bundle of music I never knew could be inspired by a simple challenge. I completely fell in love with the process of making music. So now I aim to pursue both industries (along with a werewolf book I can’t help myself but to write). I now truly believe that the possibilities are endless.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m honestly not one for going out a lot, I’m quite a homebody, spending my time writing and having friends come over so I don’t have to go out [laughs nervously]. But when I do choose to venture out of my home within the county of LA my favorite places are the Griffith Observatory (mainly for the incredible stargazing show of the galaxies that they do), the mini-golf course at Sherman Oaks Castle Park, and Universal Studios (I highly recommend the studio tour, it’s not what you’d expect). As far as restaurants, I love a good burger place, The Habit and The Burger Lounge are a couple top choices. These are all wonderful places, but what truly has going out worthwhile are the people you choose to spend that time with, they can make all the difference in the world.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve been blessed to have so much encouragement and support from friends and family, but the support I get from my mom, Kim Buckley, can not be surpassed. She put making music at the forefront of my mind, me not having seriously considered it before. Not only that, she started a film production company as well as manages my career as a rap artist. No way I would have gotten this far without her. I often thank God for my mom.
