We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Harper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always played it safe with going to school, getting a career in the family business and just living for others. I met my husband when I was 19 and we got married by 21. He joined the US Airforce and we moved to Germany for three years then Illinois the next three. During these years I dedicated my life to my husband’s career. Long story short we decided to start a family and he got out of active duty so we can move home, closer to family. Fast forward 7 years we have three beautiful boys, ages 7, 6 and 2 1/2. So to answer the question… One day, I decided i wanted more. I wanted to tap back into my creative side, as I’ve always been into makeup and the beauty industry. It was during my very first time getting microbladed 4 years ago as I was laying there on the bed and I thought to myself…I can do this. After establishing a relationship with my artist I finally said it aloud and was like I want to pursue microblading, She encouraged me to do it. So I started looking into schools/trainings. After getting my certification with another academy I went back to my Artist (a celebrity artist) and I took her training class as well. I love creating beautiful brows and enhancing my clients confidence. I am finally doing something I love!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Microblading is a growing industry with so many artists out there. I have gained so much knowledge and experience these last two years and I am so proud of myself for taking the leap and starting my business. I know that my skill set is adept as I have the natural ability and eye for creating the most soft and natural looking brows. BUT let me just say starting a business is never easy, the goal is to have financial freedom and to not work a 9 to 5. What they don’t tell ya is that you will be working more than ever in the beginning. I am working harder than ever. Marketing myself and my services is a task in itself. But that doesn’t discourage me, it makes me strive harder. To fight harder for my kids and family. I’ve learned that you can put your mind to anything and achieve your goals. Never settle!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my friend to my fave coffee parlor for our morning cup of joe and breakfast. Then we would take an adventure to Venice Beach, probably get a piercing..We’d eat lunch out there at Scopa and then there after walk the boardwalk. I love people watching and Venice is so interesting.. i love the artist out there selling their creations.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been blessed with such an amazing husband, he’s given me so much love and support during my permanent makeup journey. And then there is my family of course, who have done the same. But there’s been one person who has been particularly encouraging. My sister is my biggest supporter and deserves to know how much I look up to her. She is a business owner and boss lady herself! She is the smartest person I know and I want to thank her for all the help she’s given me. She not only inspires me to be a better person but a better business owner. So thanks, Sis! There’s also one more person I’d like to give a little recognition and that is my friend and mentor Haley Buckner. She is an amazing PMU artist with a repertoire of celebrity clients and the only one I trust to do my brows. She gives hope that one day I will be just as successful as her.
