We had the good fortune of connecting with Devlin Wilder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devlin, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Don’t get me wrong. I love all things Monty Python but I no longer buy into the mantra to “always look on the bright side of life.” There are so many dark spots and heartbreaking moments that I think build wisdom to a person’s existence. I’ve lived through so much and am propelled by the dark times just as much as the joyous ones. Sometimes it’s nice to just sit in the dark with your own thoughts so that you can have a good cry and come out the other side with strength and understanding.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since being featured last May, it’s been quite a year. I just celebrated my nine year anniversary here in LA of which I treasure every moment. As I shared in my previous article here, I struggled an insane amount to remain here through homelessness and extreme hardship. I am doing much better now but I work every day to ensure that I never have to return to that existence. I have made great strides with my podcast Faux Real which recently hit the top 200 comedy charts on Apple Podcasts and have continued to welcome an expansive array of engaging guests which, since my previous appearance here, has welcomed Weird Al’s drummer of more than 30yrs Jon “Bermuda” Schwartz, comedian Alex Hooper (AGT), Mistress Justine Cross, actor and comedian Zainab Johnson (Upload), musical artist Cloe Wilder (I Don’t Wanna), actor and comedian Alexis Miranda (For Evan’s Sake), actor and puppeteer Morgana Ignis (Earth to Ned), actor and stuntwoman Lori Livingston (Wandavision), and chiropractic physician Dr. Robin Ellsworth.  @OverheardCelebs recently shared a fun and romantic story from my past involving Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead). And I have a big announcement on my writing work coming later this year.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m going to give you an unexpected treasure here that you will thank me for the rest of your existence (or as long as they remain open). Go to Yard House in Burbank or DTLA and try their tomato bisque. I know YH isn’t one of the ten or twenty places you would consider an LA exclusive but I make no exaggeration when I tell you it is life-altering. I suggest pairing it with a grilled cheese equaling absolute perfection. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Since my previous appearance in this publication, I met someone who has helped to reinvigorate my creativity and focus by being an ever-present light in my life. She will be the first person I will be showing this article to. I want to thank her for lifting me in every way, no matter how many times I was down about my accomplishments.
