Meet Diana Acevedo: Film & Stage Performance Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Acevedo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking has become naturally integrated in my personal life and especially my career/business. I think it’s more natural to take a risk than people may realize they do as often as most fear it. Yes, without jumping out of your comfort zone and taking risks when you know it benefits you, you can never attain your goals or where you want to be but while that’s true, why do we more easily decide to take risks that don’t benefit us in the best way? This includes harmful behavior, jumping into a red flagged relationship, or running a red light, just to list a few. LOL Healthy risk taking is a habit worth forming and may take time but once you exercise it, you’ll thank yourself. As you should!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being an actor comes with a lot of rejection, ruthless competition (even from co-actors) and manipulation all aimed at kicking you down and keeping you off the pedestal. The Film industry is a brutal industry as is any and finding my voice in it and having unshakable faith is still something I work towards. The modeling side is even tougher considering sizing standards and as far as the body positivity movement is concerned. I’m a pretty fit Latina but our body types aren’t as appreciated in the industry and my aim is to develop a positive, non-destructive mindset for society that encompasses women of all body-types universally. Knowing how far I’ve gotten in just a matter of four years, is what keeps me going and having friends, mentors and industry people who love and support me in my endeavor keeps me humble and true to myself. You never ever, want to lose sight of yourself in any industry. I aim to inspire and make a mark with my work, no matter how little it may seem. I’ve made appearances in short films, feature films, tv series, commercials, and even student films and I believe ALL can be utilized to advance my career.
What I am most proud of is having been able to book the lead role in short film ‘Makhaliss’. Who books a Latina actress as a lead in a foreign Japanese film? What a wild experience that was but definitely a very rewarding one. I aspire to keep breaking traditional film boundaries and encourage other aspiring minority actresses to take the risk!
I guess what sets me apart from other talents, is my blunt nature and my broad range in castability despite being Mexican-American. I am ready to tackle the wall.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I go hiking often, so I would have them tag along with me to venture all of Southern California’s nature trails in Griffith park, Pasadena, along Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu. Then I would probably take them to Santee Alley for some sweet bargain deals and a chance to support small businesses in LA.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate this Shoutout to my friend Zannette (@zannyhatesu on Instagram) who’s outspoken personality really encouraged me to express myself as authentically as possible without fear. I’m naturally a very blunt person but had developed the insecurity of not speaking as honestly as possible, sugar coating and overall not saying what I really felt or mean’t for fear of offending others or being judged. I can speak more confidently and have dialog calmly with just about anyone. This new found habit has helped better myself as an individual and as a result bettered and inspired my craft.
