Meet Diana Matlak | Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Matlak and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by people who, despite their opposition to fate and the obstacles they encounter, do not give up. People who fight for their dreams impress me a lot. I believe that persistence in pursuing a goal is the basic trait in achieving success.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve learned that the most important thing in acting is to be who you are; unique and true to yourself. I’ve learned a lot of lessons over the years, but I think the most important thing I have learned is to trust the process. It is also important to not compare yourself to other people and to accept and get used to the fact that in acting rejection exists on a daily basis. I treat each audition as an opportunity to act, showcase myself and to have fun. I always try to prepare myself for every audition as much as I can. I know that auditioning is a process and I try to treat acting more like a marathon then a sprint. I think that is one of the hardest things I had to teach myself; that getting a role doesn’t solely depend on me, but the many moving parts within a production. I can only be responsible for my preparation and once I’m done with an audition my part is over. Once I learned that, it became easier for me to audition.

There are a lot of projects that I’m really proud of, but the most recent one is “Corona Viral Monologues” directed by Claire Chubbuck. We filmed this movie during the pandemic. It’s an innovative special that features some of the candid, funny, painful and yearning insights of people in quarantine, based on a play of the same name. The movie has been very successful and already won a few awards: Audience Award for Best Narrative Short at the Silicon Beach Film Festival, Best Narrative at the Washington Film Festival and Honorable Mention at Los Angeles Film Awards. We also got nominated at the Los Angeles Film Awards as Best Ensemble of the Year. I’m playing one of the leads and I’m very happy and proud that I could be part of this unique project, especially because we shot it during the pandemic. The movie is very inspiring and motivating. It shows people’s struggle and experience during the COVID-19 Pandemic and at the same time it gives the audience hope and strength to not give up.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles has so many interesting and exciting places to offer. I really enjoy taking my friends who visit me to a nice cozy restaurant or coffee shop near the boardwalk in Santa Monica or Venice. I also really enjoy many places in North and West Hollywood. I think everyone can find something for themselves in LA.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think that as an actor community is really a very important factor. I’ve met a lot of wonderful artists in Los Angeles from all over the world, who all share the same passion as I do. We have the same dreams and we support each other. For me, their success motivates me to take more actions. I’m also extremely lucky to have great friends and family that support me and believe in me. After deciding to move to the U.S my family has always encouraged me and helped me, even from a far. I’m very grateful to have an amazing support system.
