We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Mendoza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The idea of Never Alone Candles® started right at the start of the pandemic. As everyone came to grips with quarantine life, I already knew what this type of life was like. I am a two-time breast cancer survivor and I am an expert at quarantining when going through cancer treatments twice in my life. The world was in a severe panic about COVID-19, how they were going to get the next roll of toilet paper and what type of bread was going to be baked. I was too preoccupied with an upcoming CT scan. It was during this time as I lit my white candles and placed my prayers underneath them that I became aware that no matter how dark the darkness is, the light of one candle conquers. I understood I have never been alone in my journey of 16 years fighting against breast cancer. There has been someone else in my shoes and is there is someone currently in my shoes.
What should our readers know about your business?
Starting a business is one of the most courageous acts someone can do in their life. I am most proud that I said yes to the possibility without getting caught up in the how. Never Alone Candles® is still less than two years old and I am learning and navigating the ups and downs, but I continue to show up because I believe that my story and my product can be of service to someone. Or at least that’s my goal.
Here is what I want the world to know about my brand:
A candle isn’t just a candle. A candle flame symbolizes the inner light. The inner light that
we all carry in ourselves. Shining the light of your spirit in the world is our birthright.
If nothing else, we can take comfort in knowing that we’re not alone in this journey called life.
When you purchase a candle from Never Alone Candles® know that they are hand-poured in small batches to ensure the highest quality pours for a flawless finish. Made with luxe coconut wax and memorable scents invoking inspiration, hope, connection, and belief that oneself is truly never alone. The candles are environmentally sustainable, phthalate-free, cruelty-free, and paraben-free. Every candle is named after a positive word because when we speak positively to ourselves the world shows up in the most positive ways.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I started Never Alone Candles® I had no business plan nor any expectations. I truly just wanted to sell my candles and inspire women to believe that their light is needed in this world. My success is rooted in many women who believed in my story but two in particular.
In April 2020 when I decided I was going to experiment with the idea, I had only told one person, Janeth De La Cruz, the owner of Invisible Armor (multiple locations in Orange County). She was my first customer when I opened my online store on September 1, 2020, and continues to support my business in endless ways.
In addition, in August of 2020 I was talking to my friend Shelli Melkonian, the owner of Style Society Boutique in Costa Mesa, CA about how I was spending my summer. I casually mentioned that I was working on this new possible candle business and she immediately said come to show her the line. Of course, I did and on the spot, Style Society Boutique was the first retailer to carry Never Alone Candles®.
