We had the good fortune of connecting with Director ZANE and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Director, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
If it weren’t for risk, I wouldn’t have started my own business. I remember waking up one morning back in June, 2015 and deciding that I was going to start my own business. While I was still trying to figure out what I was passionate about and what I wanted to do, I knew one thing for sure: I was going to take a leap of faith and work for myself. After I discovered my passion for directing videos, I immediately started brainstorming ways to make a full-time living doing it. The first three years were really tough, I was constantly behind on rent, and I barely could afford groceries. Regardless, I was determined to keep going because I gave myself no other choice. It wasn’t until 2019 that I finally started landing big commercial and music video projects, and now my company – ZANE Productions – is one of the top video production companies in Los Angeles. Being a business owner is risky, but I’ve learned to perceive risk as an invaluable asset to keep pushing me to grown and expand my business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love creating visuals for music videos and commercials. When I’m on set and I see all the pieces of the puzzle coming together, and I finally look at the monitor, I feel a sense of accomplishment that I can only describe as addictive! It just encourages me to keep going and doing more! Everything and anything inspires me, and I’m constantly coming up with different ways to bring different ideas to life. I’m very fortunate to be in a creative industry directing videos, there is no other career path that I couldn’t possibly find more rewarding.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite places in Los Angeles is The Grove on Fairfax and 3rd Ave. It’s especially magical during the holidays. You can literally spend a whole day there and not get bored. You can shop, eat, and even watch a movie. It’s the first place I take my friends to when they’re visiting LA.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very grateful to be surrounded by a great team of creatives who help bring my clients’ projects to live.
