We had the good fortune of connecting with Dom Betances and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dom, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chased the creative path because, well, I’m just a die-hard fan at heart. Music has been my compass since day one. While other kids were glued to cartoons after school, I was hooked on TRL and 106 & Park. Then came the High School Musical franchise, and suddenly I was deep into “stan” culture before I even knew it was a thing. My high school days sparked a love for graphic design, which I fused with my music obsession to kickstart a freelance gig. Fast forward, I’ve collaborated with several of my favorite artists, delving into artist management while still whipping up cover art and merch designs. It’s all about turning fandom into a career that I’m passionate about!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My journey from fan to professional is anything but conventional. With a keen eye for design and a passion for elevating album art and merchandise, I found my niche in the music industry. Let’s face it – who wants their favorite artist’s album art slapped on a t-shirt? Utilizing social media, especially Instagram, proved pivotal. From tagging artists in posts to sliding into DMs, I showcased my designs, catching the attention of them and their teams. Projects like MAX’s ‘Colour Vision’ album rollout and Megan Thee Stallion’s Coachella merch followed suit, validating my approach amidst a sea of talented designers.

Yet, the path wasn’t without its hurdles. A harsh reality I’ve faced is individuals attempting to claim my successes as their own. Navigating the music industry landscape, I’ve learned the value of authentic, supportive relationships. While challenges tested me, they only enriched my journey.

What I hope people take away from my story is my unwavering support for my peers. Whether it’s celebrating their achievements or being there for their milestones, I’m all about lifting others up. It’s what makes my journey fulfilling and keeps me grounded in a world of endless talent and opportunity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend and I hit LA, we’re rolling out the red carpet for a week-long adventure! First stop, we’re diving into the unmatched vibes of The Grove. We’ll grab a bite at Marmalade Cafe, savoring the cozy atmosphere and delicious eats – the mac & cheese is to die for. Afterward, it’s a stroll through the farmer’s market for fresh finds and local flair.

Next, we’d rev up the nostalgia at Mel’s Drive-In for a classic diner experience.

Of course, no trip to LA is complete without a peek behind the scenes of Hollywood magic. We’ll dive into the Warner Bros Studio Tour, getting an insider’s look at iconic sets and cinematic secrets.

For some high-energy entertainment, Universal City Walk is a must. We’ll explore the vibrant shops, catch a movie, and maybe even brave some thrilling rides at Universal Studios.

And to cap off the week with a bang, we’ll hit up Melrose Trading Post on a Sunday. From vintage finds to local artisans, it’s the perfect way to wrap up our week-long exploration of the city’s diverse culture and vibrant spirit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I have to give the biggest shoutout to my boss and one of my best friends, Jaime Bilotti. I crossed paths with Jaime back in June of 2020, all thanks to our mutual friend Kaitlyn McManus (shoutout to her!). Jaime was on the hunt for someone to design a logo for her groundbreaking venture, Fan To Band. Little did I know that a simple phone call to discuss her visionary concept would pave the way for what has become the opportunity of a lifetime – landing my dream job.

Together with Jaime, and an incredible group of individuals, who I’d also love to shoutout: Jess, Cassie, Lisa, Sydney, Harlee, Victoria, Lao, Lauren, Darby, Bari, Beatrice, Kirsten, Kaitlyn, Maya, Sean (the list goes on!), we built Fan To Band into a globally recognized platform. Their unwavering support to our mission has been instrumental, whether they remained with Fan To Band or ventured onto new paths.

As Jaime’s vision expanded beyond Fan To Band, we formed a dynamic team – now including the charming and very accomplished Jake Posner (shoutout to Jake!) – focusing on artist, producer, and writer development, as well as management and marketing. It’s been a dream come true, akin to having the best of both worlds (cue the Hannah Montana theme song!). Jaime not only encourages my design pursuits but also invites me to bring my favorite artists into our orbit – two of whom I now manage alongside her (shoutout to Sergio and Grant). In the whirlwind that is the music industry, Jaime’s resilience and commitment to our cause continue to inspire me daily.

Last but certainly not least, I want to extend a heartfelt shoutout to my family and friends. Even if they’re not entirely sure what I do for a living, their unconditional love and support mean the world to me. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without their unwavering encouragement.
