Meet Dominique Carson | Freelance Journalist and Massage Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Carson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
First and foremost, I credit my Heavenly Father for all of my blessings, along with the good and bad. Next, I appreciate my fiancé, friends, family, & colleagues for their continuous support and tough love. God has blessed me with people that SINCERELY have my best interest at heart. Success is truly a journey, not a destination. The roadway to success is not always calculated but you can’t be afraid to fail. I realized in my life that my triumph moments were created after experiencing some of my biggest failures and or valleys. A Lyft driver told me that we don’t have problems, we have incidents. You will only have a problem if you do not wake up the next day. And from that ride, it has been my slogan for success and life. We are not immune to life challenges; it comes a long with success but how you handle it determines the outcome of your life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a massage therapist by day and a ongoing journalist/author. I am elated that I have two careers that I love dearly. I appreciate the flexibility and I have the option to select which one would be my dominant career. I tell everyone that my overall mission is to facilitate people’s lives with my hands and words. But it was not an easy road for this woman from East New York, Brooklyn, NY. I was hearing impaired as a child, father was murdered before I can even talk, & overcoming emotional and personal hurdles. I am fortunate that I was surrounded by my mother, cousins and grandparents despite setbacks. My love for writing began when I was eight years old and it still fills my heart with gratification over 20 years later. I started my massage careers in my late twenties but my grandmother, Eloise Grant, God bless her soul knew that my hands would have power and meaning. She discovered the beauty of my hands after performing light compression when I was a teenager. I just want people to know that an inspirational vision is not a pipe dream, give it a chance to mature and reveal it’s upmost potential.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I was in my home state, NYC it would be Empire State, Times Square, Barclays Center, & excellent restaurants in Uptown/ Manhattan.
Since I live in Virginia now, it would be Virginia Beach because it’s truly a spot for tourists. You have the beach, the boardwalk, & other recreational activities.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Heavenly Father Fiancé, Jeffrey “Papa” Carter
Family & Friends, too many to name.
Mentor, Gary Gentles, Robert Scott, Ron Howell, & Adina Mardenborough
