We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Sometimes in order for people to grow and elevate in life they need to take risks. Stepping out of your comfort zone and putting yourself out there can bring so many opportunities that wouldn’t happen if you didn’t put yourself in the position you’re not normally comfortable in. Taking risks throughout my life has brought me to meet so many wonderful people and it has most definitely boosted my confidence. It took me a whole year before I actually started my lash business. I was scared no one would support and buy anything. Especially because the lash business is very popular right now, I really thought my business wouldn’t have a chance. But I’m happy I took that risk and put myself out there, not only with my business but with other things as well because I have learned so much about myself through all of the experiences I’ve had and I plan to continue to keep taking risks and changing my life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I just started my business not too long ago, but I am very excited for what’s to come next for myself and Nique’s Blinks. I started this lash business so women could feel beautiful whenever they put eyelashes on. I know that when I have lashes on I feel 10x more confident and I feel good. I want every other woman to feel the same way. With or without lashes they’re beautiful regardless. When I see a woman put lashes on, strips or extensions, I can automatically tell they feel sexy and if I can sell eyelashes to make women feel good about themselves, then that’s what I’m going to do. My confidence used to be so low a few years ago and I still struggle with it. But I want to help all women build their confidence in every aspect, even if it’s just putting eyelashes on.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many places to go in LA! I would most definitely take them to a nice hangout spot like Cabo Cantina in Marina Del Rey. It always has good vibes whenever I go there and the margaritas are amazing. I would of course take them to Benihanas because who doesn’t like Benihanas?! Their fried rice is the best. Another place to eat is Home located near Hollywood. The vibe is very much home like and relaxing. The staff and food are top tier. Lastly, I would have to take them to a good steak house like Flemings. Their steaks, mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach are hands down the best I’ve ever tasted. There are a few museums I would show them as well. The Broad Museum, the Museum of Love, and the Museum of Tolerance are a couple of museums I think are great to visit if you’re from out of town. Lastly, I would have to take them to the happiest place on earth, Disneyland. I love Disneyland so much! I used to go all the time when I was little and I still get excited now when I go at 22 years old. So that trip has to happen for sure.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dad is someone who deserves this shoutout. He is the hardest working man I know and has shown me that anything is possible if I put in the work ethic to achieve my goals. My dad is my mentor. If there’s anyone I will take advice from, it’s him. Everything that I’m doing as far as becoming an entrepreneur and starting my own business, he’s already been there and done that. He’s honestly just showing me the way and teaching me everything there is to know to become a successful business woman. My dad wants nothing but the best for me and I appreciate all of the talks and lectures that he gives me because no one else is going to go as hard for me than him (and my mom of course). He’s the reason why I wanted to become an entrepreneur and I look up to him, so shout out to my pops Glen Davis for being the best to ever do it!
