We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, how do you think about risk?
Risk is the space where contracts with self are signed. Risk is the intimate space where we compare and contrast our strengths and shortcoming to take on what we perceive to be a gain or loss. Taking a risk is never about the task, venture, collaboration or money. For me risk happens in the self reflection before I pull the trigger, “Do I trust myself to be focused, diligent and disciplined to see this thing through.” Every opportunity that has come my way is not my opportunity. The risk is letting that endeavor be someone else’s blessing. When my answer to the question is yes and I sign that contract with self. I walk in to situations both personally and professionally with a belief the outcome will be exactly what it should be.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The art of story telling is how I would describe my outlets the best. Whether I am creating content, narrating someone else’s story or sharing my run journey or life. What makes me different is my vulnerability, quirks and voice exist within in my work. I would not say that it was easy to pursue my passion because to truly see myself successful there was and is internal healing, accountability, and acceptance of responsibility that had and has to continually take place. Understanding and working at those three things to apply the best version of myself to my craft is what I am most proud of.
What I have learned along the way is passion will inspire you. Motivation will excite you. Consistency will elevate you.
When people see, read or hear Lean In With The Kings or Grow Up Wild the intention is always to share our lives and voice in an authentic way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a Taurus woman lets get food out of the way first. Trap Kitchen Oakland, Taqueria Senaida’s, A Cote, Mau, Limon, Lokanta, Telerific Barcelona, Angelines, Bix, Media Noche, Brenda’s French Soul food, Domo, and Bund Shanghai are places I would have at the top of my list to eat. Best places to grab a drink are Oeste, The Avenue, Skates On the Bay, Charmaine’s Roof Top, Jazz Club or Yoshi’s . To hang out and tap into the fun aspect Pong, Rackem Up Billards, Stinson Beach, Mt.Tam trails, Mt. Diablo trails, Monterey aquarium, or a night of Karoke. Where to see the most interesting people and leave with a story would hands down be to go to Golden Gate Park, Lake Merritt or the museum district in San Francisco.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
