We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Vellutato and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, how do you define success?
If I am constantly growing, consistently becoming a better version of myself, I am successful. It is an ever flowing never ending road without a finish line. Yes, I have tangible goals I have achieved and am steadily working to achieve, but those are mere physical stops along a longer path. I used to define my success by the goals set by others. In the music industry especially there are awards and wonderful industry achievements every musician hopes to one day add to their resume. However, I find my success in the moments hardly shared with others. In the new song I wrote and finished alone that I love. In the creative for a photoshoot I planned and executed brilliantly. In the space I leave for unexpected and exciting moments to happen. In my kindness and generosity towards others. In sharing creative ideas and knowledge and receiving it back. I am successful because I am always trying.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am extremely proud and excited to share this next stage of music! I’ve written some of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. They are heartfelt, sincere, and dangerously lovable.
Aside from the music there are so many incredible things happening and I am just trying to stay on this high wavelength and enjoy every moment of growth. I’ve finished creating a sing-songwriter class with Studio that is available June 2023 (you can find it here studio.com/dominique). In the class I show my process on writing a song from scratch and demo-ing it out. I loved making it and hope it helps anyone who wants to write out there!
I start my role as a Music Producer for The Voice this month. It’s going to be a wild ride but I enjoy my voice family and the excitement of the show.
I’ve found throughout my years in this industry – it really is about the process and the journey, the excitement in the growth, the hurdles that lead to new possibilities, and the fun in the work. I’ve learned over the years to trust myself and know that trying is everything.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Coffee: Rocketship, Sightglass, Clark St Eat: Gra, Bacari, El Carmen, Urth, Scopa
Hangs: beach volleyball, some golf, some soccer, pool hangs, hikes, anything outdoors
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family deserves a lot of credit for where I am today. Every day I feel supported and loved. I’ve also had incredible mentors that are always there to drop wisdom and help me navigate this crazy industry.
