Meet Sarah DeRemer: Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah DeRemer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I love getting to spend my days creating awesome images of dogs, especially when I’m able to give people photos of their family members that they’ll cherish forever. It makes me happy to capture moments that will be remembered. Dogs are incredibly important members of the family, and I love getting to focus all my work around them! It also makes me happy that I’ve been able to design a great work life balance for myself while keeping work fun, which I think is incredibly important especially if you’re a working creative.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m proud of how many fun artistic experiences I’ve gotten to have throughout my life, both for fun, school & now for work! I went to school for studio art, then switched to digital art while living abroad, and then photography upon returning to the states. I’ve found the most success from creating work I’m passionate about. I’ve learned that focusing on something you love, as well as a niche market, really help in such a competitive market. I truly love helping pet parents and pet brands (especially small businesses) create bright and bold images that will help them capture memories, sell products, or just convey the emotions that they want. The dog community is so awesome, I’m so glad my artistic journey has taken me here!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My must-hit spots have changed a bit over the last few years with the pandemic and getting a dog! My recommended activities would definitely include a lot of outdoor time from the coast to the mountains! We’d visit some trails in Malibu, walk the canals in Venice, and hit up some of the larger parks like Kenneth Hahn, Griffith Park, & State Historic Park. I think the most exciting parts of the city are far from the tourist locations… probably won’t be taking anyone to the Walk of Fame or anything. We’ll get all the tacos & sushi & other wonderful food that the city is known for, and spend time with friends (safely) going on long walks around the city to explore!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I absolutely attribute a lot of my success to the incredible network of friends and creatives around me who have been sounding boards and motivators along the way. I also owe a lot to the wonderful community of dog parents in Los Angeles who have been incredibly supportive of my journey every step of the way! The dog community here is so special in how positive and supportive it is, both of other dog parents & of creatives in the pet industry.
