We had the good fortune of connecting with June Shelton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi June, what’s your definition for success?
Anytime I focus and complete something I set my mind to. Success itnt just one thing, its a million little things you do to accomplish a goal.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Man! This was a JOURNEY! It started off as just a random thought. I was in a relationship at the time and I was so happy I just started writing this song about her. Next thing I know…..its 2 songs….then 4. Then I started adding features and it just took off. I had so much fun just creating it and telling these stories. There were a few hiccups with features and rewriting a couple songs but we pushed through. I learned what ACTUALLY goes into making music! Its way more than just recording a song. Its truly a process. I have a new found respect for these artist.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say you HAVE to go Lous Deli and there are a few spots downtown you have to hit. I just realized a lot of cities dont have Coneys. So i would say for sure hit one here, preferably with the bullet proof glass. Thats how you know its a good one!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This project wouldnt be a success without the help of all the other artist who dedicated their talents and time to it, without Kulture sitting up in the studio with me teaching me how this music thing works while mixing and perfecting it to my exact vision….DJ Pain producing CRAZY beats, and really all the people around me believing in me and my vision. I can only do so much by myself, but I honestly had a team of people just as dedicated as I was.
