We had the good fortune of connecting with Elisa Rossi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elisa, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate. C.G. Jung This quote marked a turning point in my life. I felt compelled since the moment I came across it to look inward and start digging through layers of suppressed memories. That process has been the main drive and propelling force of my art practice.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It wasn’t easy at all. Accepting the artist’s path is like jumping into the void without parachute. In fact, a totally sane person wouldn’t do it. It’s a choice and at the same time it is not. To me it was necessary. Ultimately making art is a gift and the art itself is the reward. I do it because it makes me feel alive and I couldn’t conceive existing without it. The more authentic and vulnerable I have become, the more interest and connection I have been receiving from buyers, galleries and other artists. What I envision next is a solo show in a proper space to connect again with an in-person audience and have a chance to exhbit my latest collection.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Mandatory art galleries tour. Starting from my neighborhood: Jeffrey Deitch, Nino Mier, M+B, VSF, Loft at Liz’s, Regen Projects; a visit to LACMA of course, then the Culver city art district (love Anat Egbi); Venice for a visit to Mystic Journey and Jim Budman studios; Topanga ..because it’s magical.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is going to be a long list! I would not be where I am at today if some people didn’t believe in my artist’s potential. ATO Gallery (founder Carrie Eldridge) was the first gallery that offered me representation and I am forever grateful for that. Wönzimer founders and the community around this unique art space have been supporting me as well and opened many doors for furthering my personal and professional growth. Friend / Artist Patrick Semple was there for me during challenging times and never stopped offering support. I am also deeply grateful for all the musicians in my life who impact my daily artistic output and inspire visuals. Music is definitely an integral component of my process. Furthermore, I want to mention the C. G. Jung library in Westwood where I found so many answers to quite torturing questions. I am also grateful for various support groups I attended all over Los Angeles; listening to others’ stories of survival and struggle is a precious source for inspiration, considering my personal interest into humanity and spirituality as an artist. A shoutout to everyone who has been sending messages of appreciation and interest through my IG page. The feeling of connection and being received by people is irreplaceable and creates deeper meanings to anchor to when creating the next work, especially in the past year when I have been feeling isolated and disconnected. For instance in December 2020 I was invited to sign in with a gallery in Milan, @Zigguartofficial, who found me through Instagram. It was beautiful to see how distances are actually quite short between of people talking the art language. Also a shoutout to everyone who made my life hell for certain periods because in hell I always find incredible inspiration and strength to push towards a next level of growth.
